There is a story of countless starfish being washed up on the beach. A little girl walked along the beach, picking up starfish and throwing them back into the water.  An older man saw this girl, approached her, and asked her what she was doing.  The girl said she was throwing the starfish back in the water because they would die if they remained on the beach.  The man responded that so many starfish were on the beach, and she could only throw back a minuscule number of them.  He then said this number is so tiny; what difference would it make?  After hearing his question, the girl picked up a starfish and threw it back into the water.  Then she told the man, “I made a difference for that one.” The little girl's actions, though seemingly small, had a ripple effect.  When we all use our unique skills, talents, and abilities to make a difference, society as a whole is the beneficiary. Each action, no matter how small, can create a wave of change that reaches far beyond our immediate surroundings. Charles Drew's story is a shining example of how one person's abilities can revolutionize an entire field. His invention of the blood storage system has saved countless lives and continues to do so. IMHO re: Native planting: Here's the thing about not "doing it right." In spite of the fact that (in my opinion) the categorization of native species will certainly change as the planting zones warm up, (TBH, I do love that I can now plant things in my previously too-cold zone) we need to be cognizant of the fact that natural heritage preservation is more than plant selection and design. It's so much more than that. If conservation areas are not prioritized (AND interpreted), we risk: • loss of already shrinking habitats for millions of creatures • destruction of wildlife corridors which support key critters • water quality deterioration • scarcity of food sources for both prey and predators that can cause regional extinction • degraded air quality • reduction of property values • ability to attract and retain residents, businesses, and a quality workforce • decimation of legacy forests, prairies, fens, and pollinator support • devastation of local food sources • operational and financial sustainability • eligibility for crucial funding • loss of outdoor recreation opportunities • lack of immersive educational experiences that bolster prioritization of conservation Nature deserves better. We can all play a role because - yes, we must "do it right." Kudos to you, Scott Martin & City of Chattanooga!

You may remember at the end of last year we created some enrichment stations with removable/switchable inserts at Yorkshire Wildlife Park Ltd. And we were immediately asked if we could create some more, to allow more options to move the feeders between the different primate stations. So when a team building booking came along that these additions fit this groups brief perfectly, we jumped at the chance! We like to take opportunities like this to make adjustments to previous versions, so with feedback from the keepers, the bamboo feeder was created with a much taller central column, giving more feeding and climbing options. And we also made adjustments to the dig box, changing the way the lid is built and works. It's a small adjustment, but it works much better. The feeding station is an extra challenge to build as the legs and the tabletop are actually separate to allow it to be moved and fit through building doors. The tabletop simply slots on top of the legs once positioned in the house or enclosure. A huge well done to the awesome team-building group who throughout the event built two feeding stations and two different feeders, you did amazing! So often rare and native breeds work brilliantly regenerative farming systems. Using livestock whose needs are met by the land and that can positively enhance the soils and biodiversity through their grazing patterns, size and other characteristics, is essential to farming in a sustainable way
