Did you know General George S. Patton, Jr. received a Silver Lifesaving Medal from the Coast Guard? According the US Coast Guard, in 1923, then Major Patton, while on leave with his wife in Salem, Massachusetts, rescued three teenage boys whose boat had capsized. In 1925, the Coast Guard awarded Major Patton with the Silver Lifesaving Medal for his heroic actions. Patton was a very accomplished sailor in the interwar years. This is another example of him being in the right place at the right time.
