KEY POINT: “Right-wing extremists hold the upper hand in US Congress KEY EXCERPT: Late last night, House Republicans broke that tradition, [loading the military funding] bill with a wish list from the far right. Republicans added amendments that eliminate all diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in the United States Department of Defense; end the Defense Department program that reimburses military personnel who must travel for abortion services; bar healthcare for gender transition; prevent the military academies from using affirmative action in admissions (an exception the recent Supreme Court of the U.S. Supreme Court #scotus decision allowed); block the Pentagon from putting in place President Biden’s executive orders on climate change; prevent schools associated with the Defense Department from teaching that the United States of America is racist; and block #military schools from having “pornographic and radical gender ideology books” in their libraries. - Historian Heather Cox Richardson KEY QUOTE: U.S. House of Representatives speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) tweeted: “We don’t want Disneyland to train our military. House Republicans just passed a bill that ENDS the wokism in the military and gives our troops their biggest pay raise in decades.” In fact, the events of last night were a victory for right-wing extremists, demonstrating that they hold the upper hand in the House.

TOMMY TUBHEAD OF ALABAMA (WHERE ELSE?) SOMETIME FOOTBALL COACH AND DEVOUT CHRISTIAN TURNED SENATOR, IS GRANDSTANDING ON WHAT HE PROCLAIMS ARE HIS INVIOLABLE “MORAL” PRINCIPLES🤔, ABOUT PREVENTING ANYONE HAVING AN ABORTION IN THE US MILITARY “ON TAXPAYOR MONEY”…. Meanwhile a short review of his own ethical conflicts is ironic to say the least…but devoutly Christian as he is, and as a true patriot, he has chosen to impress the folks back in ‘Ole Miss’ and elsewhere by crippling the US military to make his point. Wikipedia: “Tuberville invested $1.9 million in GLC Enterprises, which the Securities and Exchange Commission called an $80 million PONZI scheme. He lost about $150,000 when the business closed in 2011. At Auburn, Tuberville participated in the Auburn Church of Christ. Tuberville's interests include "NASCAR, golf, football, hunting and fishing, [and] America's military". He enjoys country and western music. In August 2023, The Washington Post reported that campaign finance and property records suggest Tuberville lives in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, instead of Auburn, as his office claims, and has for almost two decades. The United States Constitution requires senators to live in the state where they are elected, but does not provide a minimum length of residency; Alabama requires a candidate to reside in the state for just one day to run for office.(POLITICAL MORAL: IDIOTS DESERVE IDIOTIC LEADERSHIP)” #senate #tuberville #military #abortionrights #pentagonconfirmations
Senate moves ahead on 3 key military nods stalled by Tuberville delays

I was privileged to work with Senator Joe Lieberman (D/I-CT) twice. He chose principles over politics. In 2005, Wade Zirkle, David Bellavia and I founded Vets for Freedom. Its goal was simple: support our efforts in Iraq at a time when the country was wavering. Zirkle had been wounded in a car bombing in Fallujah. Bellavia had attacked solo into a Fallujah house, killing several jihadists and earning the Medal of Honor. (I had reported from the outskirts of Fallujah, ducking behind a Humvee upon hearing harassing fire, to the delight of my Marine escorts). Sen Lieberman, stalwart in the face of Democrat dissent, provided key counsel to VFF. Lieberman won as an independent in 2006, demonstrating Connecticut's appreciation for good leadership. Three years later, in 2009, Sen Lieberman supported a grassroots effort to remove Don't Ask, Don't Tell, allowing gay and lesbian service members to serve openly. This seems obvious today, but we center-righties chuckle that we were two years ahead of President Obama and Vice President Biden. DADT was finally repealed in 2011. Yesterday, President Obama cited Sen Lieberman's navigation on this issue through the tricky politics of the time. In two decades, political power has steadily flowed from Congress to the Executive. As a result -- with two impulsive, antithetical Presidents back-to-back -- the country feels like it is lurching, even on foreign policy. Congress provides crucial ballast. The USA needs principled leaders like Joe Lieberman in today's House and Senate to lead as the probability of major war rises. https://lnkd.in/gpkUYwT2

A WAR IS RAGING AGAINST OUR FELLOW HUMANS. It’s nothing new. It has been going on for centuries in various forms, but with the same intent. Please don’t say you don’t know what I am talking about. “White” people, “How would you like to be treated the way we treat Black Americans in the USA today? Of course you wouldn’t! So we do know about anti-Black & systemic racism in every area of life in the USA. If this WAR were any other war, we’d cough up money to stop it! BUT OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DOES NOT WANT TO STOP IT. They wealthiest elites make money off of racism. Plus, this war is one we already pay for. WE PAY FOR IT BUT ON THE WRONG SIDE! We pay to make sure systemic racism is alive and thriving and we get the “white” masses to help us by upholding the lies of the wealthiest elites. SYSTEMIC RACISM IS A GIANT MONEY MAKING SCHEME FOR THE WEALTHIEST ELITES. “Whites” in the aggregate uphold the stereotypes and lies even when we go against our own best interest. We are played the fool and we fall for it century after century. The wealthiest elites, thank us for our service.

Why? 🤔 We live in the midst of generational anti-Blackness that hasn’t been resolved and shows no signs of being resolved. Every other group that has been done wrong has received them, even when the atrocity happened elsewhere! 💯 These present inequities are on purpose, and are intentional. Reparations are OWED! 🗣️ Let’s come together October 7th and 8th in ATL at Georgia State University to organize collectively around this issue! I know I'm definitely in the minority opinion, at least on this particular platform. But I've also become more acutely aware of the fact that it's important to speak out, if at a minimum to challenge the predominant groupthink mentality and to let others know they're not alone. This can be done in a firm but respectful manner, and for the edification of all who have ears willing to hear (or in this case, eyes willing to read). I for one am thankful for Senator Tuberville holding firm in defense of the unborn and for actually taking a stand against the ongoing politically leftward direction this administration continues to take our military. What's sad is that there are so very few elected leaders without a "D" next to their name who are willing to utilize their power and positions of authority to do the same. Nearly every conservative military family I speak with shares the same concerns that are outlined in articles such as this - that the leftist bent to which this administration is taking our military prevents it from being an institution we'd encourage our children to join. It's an incredibly sad but honest assessment, and I believe it (rather than anything having to do with the competing labor market or any other laundry list of excuses typically being espoused) is the leading cause for the historic lows in military recruiting and retention that we find ourselves in today. Families like ours (my father and I have nearly 60 years of combined USAF service between us) have been the bedrock source of military recruiting since our nation's founding, drawing from generations of patriotic Americans who have been proud to serve their country in support of a cause greater than ourselves. Together we've served under 11 different presidents, both Republican and Democrat alike, and I can assure you it's never been as overtly political and hyper-partisan as it's been during these last few years. This dangerous trajectory that we're on is not sustainable. Unless and until the American public demands a massive course correction with how things are currently being run, it won't bode well for military readiness going forward. And our ability to defend this great nation from those who would seek to do us harm will be severely hindered as a result. This is indeed a national security issue of primary importance - I pray we realize this before it's too late. 🇺🇲 https://lnkd.in/d8jawPk5

A little bit of interesting history for you today June 19th, 1865, when Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas, confirming the war's end and ensuring the freedom of all enslaved individuals. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was a beacon of hope in 1863, it took over two years for its promises to be realised in Texas, the last state of the Confederacy with institutional slavery. As we commemorate this pivotal moment in history, let's reflect on the journey towards equality and justice. The resilience and courage of those freed on Juneteenth continue to inspire. Let's honour their legacy by fostering inclusivity and championing diversity in our workplaces and communities. Yet, as we celebrate progress, let us also acknowledge the road ahead. The pursuit of justice is ongoing, and we must commit ourselves to creating a future where opportunity and freedom are not just ideals but realities for all. This Juneteenth, take time to educate, to celebrate, and to act. Whether through community service, participating in events, or simply broadening our collective understanding—every effort counts in honouring this significant day in history. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #Equality
