The Biden–Harris Administration last week announced $623 million in grants to help build out an electric vehicle (#EV) charging network across the U.S., which will create American jobs and ensure more drivers can charge their electric vehicles where they live, work, and shop. This is a critical part of the Administration’s goal of building out a convenient, affordable, reliable and made-in-America national network of EV chargers, including at least 500,000 publicly available chargers by 2030 ensuring that EVs are made in America with American workers. Under President Biden’s leadership, EV sales have more than quadrupled, the number of publicly available charging ports has grown by nearly 70 percent, and more than 4 million EVs are now on the road. Spurred by the President’s historic investments, private companies have announced more than $155 billion in the EV and battery supply chain under the Biden-Harris Administration. EVs are critical to our rapid and equitable transition to clean transportation systems, producing zero tailpipe emissions, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions—major contributors to climate change and key contributors to respiratory ailments.

National Infrastructure Week is a reminder that charging for electric vehicles, including medium- and heavy-duty trucks and transportation, is critical for California to meet its clean air and 2045 climate goals. Our Countdown to 2045 analysis shows that 90% of vehicles will need to run on clean electricity in the next two decades for the state to improve air quality and reach net zero. Southern California Edison (SCE)’s Charge Ready Transport program is accelerating the adoption of medium- and heavy-duty EVs by assuring available charging infrastructure. Last month, we energized WattEV, Inc.’s new depot with 12 dual-port chargers to support truck routes connecting the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles with inland destinations. Earlier this year, my teammate, Chanel Parson, participated in the grand opening of Zeem Solutions’ new medium- and heavy-duty charging site in Inglewood. SCE partnered with NFI and Electrify America to energize a charging depot in Ontario that opened in April and will allow battery-electric trucks to refill at 38 separate DC fast chargers. And just this week, Forum Mobility celebrated the groundbreaking of a drayage EV charging site at the Port of Long Beach. SCE is proud to provide the reliable electric infrastructure that makes California the leader in electrifying transportation. #infrastructureweek #cleanenergy #energy #innovation #electricvehicles #transportation #trucking https://lnkd.in/gyHWNmdn

What we're reading: The federal government recently announced $623 million in funding for EV charging stations across the country. As more charging stations become available, current and future EV owners will hopefully have less range anxiety and be more likely to invest in cleaner transportation. This funding will not only apply to traditional EV charging stations but also to other electric vehicles like e-scooters. 🧀 On Wisconsin? Good yet way overdue news for my home state where EVs haven't really caught on yet and public charging infrastructure is scarce. Curiously, I pulled some data from our AutoPacific research to get a relevant scope of consumers living in the glorious land of cheese, the Green Bay Packers, and beer: -Just 10.46% of consumers who plan to buy a new vehicle in the next three years want a pure EV. 9.8% plan to buy a plug-in hybrid. -Consideration for EVs, however, is at about a 50/50 split. -When we looked at reasons why EV Rejectors (those in Wisconsin who will not buy an EV) don't want one...50% stated there is a lack of public charging and 14% said they think public chargers are unreliable. -When we asked EV Acceptors (those in Wisconsin who would consider, plan, or currently own an EV) how far away their closest public charging station is...41% stated they do not know. Of those who do know, the majority stated 5-10 minutes away from their place of residence. Needless to say, there's a long road ahead. Source WISN-TV

"The Joint Office reports that there are now more than 183,000 #Level2 and #DCfastcharging ports across the US – that’s an increase of more than 13,000 public #EVcharging ports in the last quarter. (If we only count DC fast chargers, there are 43,152 #charging ports and 10,662 locations.) That puts the US at over a third of the way to reaching the Biden administration’s goal of 500,000 public ports by 2030." #electricvehicles #NEVI #EVs #electrification #decarbonization #climatechange #energypolicy #transportation https://lnkd.in/e5BwBBfp

DOT awards over $622 million in grants to boost made-in-America EV charging network The Department of Transportation has announced $622.57 million in grant funding to 47 applicants to help build out an electric vehicle (EV) charging network across the U.S. The Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) program seeks to strategically deploy publicly accessible electric vehicle charging and alternative fueling infrastructure in the places people live and work – urban and rural areas alike – as well as along designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs), notes the DOT. This is a critical part of the Biden Administration’s goal of building out a convenient, affordable, reliable and made-in-America national network of EV charger, according to a Department of Transportation press release. The 47 awards, located across 22 states and Puerto Rico, and which also include 2 tribes, will create American jobs and ensure more drivers can charge their electric vehicles where they live, work, and shop, says the agency. Significant growth in nation’s EV infrastructure. Since 2021, EV sales have more than quadrupled and more than 4 million EVs are now on U.S. roads. Additionally, the number of publicly available charging ports has grown by nearly 70 percent during this timeframe. EVs are critical to the nation’s rapid and equitable transition to clean transportation systems, producing zero tailpipe emissions, reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which are major contributors to climate change and key contributors to respiratory ailments states DOT. Colorado is investing $21 million to expand its electric vehicle charging infrastructure, aiming to alleviate "range anxiety" and boost EV adoption. The investment will fund the installation of 290 new charging ports across 46 sites, increasing the state's public fast chargers by nearly 30%. The move comes as EV sales have slowed due to factors like high prices and consumer apprehension about unfamiliar fueling systems. With over 100,000 EVs already registered in Colorado, officials believe the expanded charging network will meet growing demand. The funding, sourced from federal and state grants, prioritizes communities disproportionately affected by air pollution. Most of the new charging stations are expected to be operational by the end of 2025.
