The University of South Carolina has introduced an internship program to strengthen the local workforce by encouraging talented students to pursue careers within South Carolina. Launched in 2023, this initiative offers $3,000 financial supplements to students undertaking internships in critical sectors such as manufacturing, aerospace, and health sciences. Rex Tolliver, Vice President for University of South Carolina Student Affairs and Academic Support, notes that the program not only connects students with local industries but also supports their financial needs, thereby enhancing their ability to contribute to South Carolina’s economic development. Funded by $4.5 million from the South Carolina General Assembly, the program aims to align student training with the state’s economic goals.
