The University Advising Center has launched the non-registered initiative, which assigns advisors to reach out to students who are eligible to register for the upcoming term but who have not done so. The non-registered initiative helps identify and remove barriers to registration as well as provide insight about why some students choose not to return to campus. The program has been a success and extends valuable support to first-generation students, transfer students and those students receiving the Gamecock Guarantee. Today we welcomed Hajia Alima Mahama, the first female ambassador of the Republic of Ghana, who stopped by campus during her visit to the City of Columbia SC to talk with University of South Carolina students, faculty and leadership and strengthen the university's relationship with her country.

Please join us in welcoming Stephen Thompson as inaugural faculty director of the First-Generation Center Living Learning Community. He began in this role on May 16 and serves as a liaison to help first-generation students navigate the university environment. “I didn't get to where I am professionally without the help of a lot of people, and there's no way I can ever repay those folks. However, I hope to use the knowledge and empathy I gained from those experiences to create systems that will support future first-generation college students in meaningful ways,” says Thompson. The University of South Carolina has partnered with CircleIn, a study app designed to boost student success in challenging courses. CircleIn provides a platform for classmates to connect outside the classroom, share notes, ask anonymous questions, and collaboratively work through study content.
