5 things about the free MBIE employment agreement builder that bug me: ▪ Clauses aren't numbered and don't appear to follow a logical order ▪ The parties' names don't appear until the end (?) ▪ There is no schedule of key terms (you have to trawl through the agreement to find them) ▪ It provides the agreement in a word template, that employers don't update for years or unwittingly cut and paste into/from ▪ You can leave out recommended clauses (such as whether to specify a termination date!) USCIS announced a temporary final rule that increases the automatic extension period for employment authorization and Employment Authorization Documents, available to certain EAD renewal applicants, to up to 540 days. The temporary final rule will go into effect on April 8, 2024. This extension will help avoid gaps in employment for noncitizens with pending EAD renewal applications and stabilize the continuity of operations for U.S. employers. Automatic Employment Authorization Document (EAD) Extension On April 4, 2024, USCIS announced a temporary final rule that increases the automatic extension period for employment authorization and EADs available to certain EAD renewal applicants from up to 180 days to up to 540 days. This temporary final rule will apply to two categories of EAD applicants: (1) applicants who timely and properly filed their Form I-765 applications on or after Oct. 27, 2023, if the application is still pending on April 8, 2024; and (2) applicants who timely and properly file their Form I-765 application on or after April 8, 2024 and on or before Sept. 30, 2025 (540 days after publication of this temporary final rule in the Federal Register).

Good news. Automatic extension periods for EAD renewal applicants will again increase from 180 to 540 days for eligible applications still pending when the new temporary final rule is published (April 8) as well as those filed after that date while the rule is in effect. The rule only applies to EAD catagories eligible for automatic extensions.

#USCIS released some positive news for Employment Authorization Document (EAD) extensions! The extension applies to certain categories of immigrants (subject to additional rules for certain categories), including, for example: 1. Refugees 2. Asylees and pending asylum applicants 3. N-8 or N-9 4. TPS (granted) 5. Spouses of principal E, L-1, L-2, and H-1B nonimmigrant visa holders (must have an unexpired I-94 record showing dependent status to principal applicant) 6. "Starting this week, the automatic extension for work permits will be extended from 180 days to 540 days. This means that if you filed to renew your employment authorization card and it is in a certain qualifying category, then you're authorization to work will be automatically extended by 540 days while your renewal application is pending.
