Attention to award! This year’s winner of the George Gray Award is Ken Stetz for their art title "Absorbing the Roll". This award is named for the co-founder of the Coast Guard Art Program and is awarded each year in recognition of one Coast Guard artist for outstanding artistic achievement. George Gray worked as an artist for more than seven decades and specialized in historical and military themes. With a love for the military, he enlisted in the Coast Guard during WWII. During the Vietnam War he spent six weeks sketching Marines in action for the U.S. Navy’s fine arts program. He co-founded COGAP in the early 1980’s and served as its chairman for over 20 years. He passed away in 2004 at the age of 96. Sea legs... ability of everyone to adapt to the conditions of life. A moment captured with all just on deck, managing well... Skills, talent that knows no boundaries

For those who have sailed seas like that, been in the shoes of those men and women in the picture, and stood the watch below the decks of the scene depicted, thank you. I remember, and sometimes miss getting tossed around on those angry Atlantic or vast Pacific oceans. Please continue to stand the watch! And, congrats to Mr. Stetz - award well earned. This is a very real scene that evokes many memories and emotions of its reality.
