What does AI mean for water utilities? Keynote speaker Rob Henderson from YOURIKA Labs and panelists Cristina Ahmadpour from Isle Utilities, Jim Cooper from Arcadis, and Ori Reshef from Kando explore the challenges and benefits of integrating AI into operations. #NACWAULC24

I was so honored to moderate and speak today, alongside Rob Henderson, Ori Reshef, and James P. Cooper, PE 💧. We started our discussion by meeting Kando’s Streami tool to illustrate a use case of #artificialintelligence that is here NOW. Some ideas of where the water industry could be in five years: •AI will be ubiquitous to how we allocate resources, staff and money, and also prioritize our work. The water utility might not be integral to designing the model, but will benefit from the output through partnerships with service providers •Recent investments in AI from big tech (see Meta’s investment in LLama, a Generative AI tool @ 35B + ) will open up new possibilities we aren’t even thinking of •#Generative AI will show up more in visualization tools (there was a provacative thought that maybe there will be no need for dashboards because the AI audible interface will be credible and reliable enough) and design services •In order to implement AI successfully, we need to address bias in the data that shows up mostly in training and designing the AI system. ❓What do you all think ❓ Hands down, National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) conferences are always my favorite. Very insightful interview with Arthur, Mistral AI CEO. Main takeaways I got: - Mistral will release a brand new multi-modal model - They will release automatic fine-tuning services which lets you not deploy and fine-tune it yourself - By being in Europe, state-baked funding played an important role which is usually not the case when you start in the US (where you must leverage mainly on private funding) - Is open-sourcing your model's weights REALLY open-source? Should you also open-source your dataset to make it truly an open release? #GenerativeAI #LLM #Mistral
