The language of the regional transportation measure is crucial. The legislature will decide whether the funds are raised from a progressive mechanism like a property tax or a regressive sales tax. It will set the parameters determining how much new funding the measure will produce and how it will be allocated. And, critically, the legislature can decide to allow some of the funds to be used not just for roadway repairs but to build new lanes. The expense of even one highway building project could eat through the funding, leaving little for transit or active transportation. Federal funds for infrastructure in Puerto Rico reached $127 billion in recent years and many of those resources are focused on reconstruction projects. State of California launched a new state website this week to track $180 billion in infrastructure projects over the next 10 years, according to the office of Gov. Gavin Newsom. Build.ca.gov tracks projects that have benefited from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and includes fast-tracked jobs aimed at building a 100% clean electric grid, boosting the state’s water supply and modernizing its transportation system. Newsom signed an executive order last May to establish an Infrastructure Strike Team to remove barriers to project development in California’s notoriously slow permitting process. In my mind, top infrastructure upgrade CA needs is to the electrical grid. Everything we are doing, all the additional cost and effort to get industry to renewables cannot happen without a modern electrical grid system.

California launches site to track $180B in infrastructure investment: California launched a new state website this week tracking $180 billion in infrastructure projects over the next 10 years according to Governor Gavin Newsom. The site Build.ca.gov tracks projects that have benefited from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, including fast-tracked jobs building a 100% clean electric grid, helping to boost the state's water supply and modernisation in the transportation system. The website features a map spotlighting numerous projects, including California’s high-speed rail project between San Francisco and Los Angeles that has been very slow in process, with the cost consequently ballooning from $9 billion to $128 billion. Newsom signed an executive order last May to establish an Infrastructure Strike Team to remove barriers, helping to accurately project development in California’s notoriously slow permitting processes and cutting down inflated costs. California is not alone in highlighting projects this way; Wisconsin and Massachusetts also launched a site to track its benefits from the IIJA, along with The White House unveiling a tracker and map for their funded projects.   Read more: #highspeedrail #california #infrastructure
