Helping Manufacturers Compete & Expand Business Globally I Export Strategy & Operations I Global Trade I Advisor I Trainer I Speaker
This is "supply chain" news from last month but it is big news so I wanted to share just in case you missed it and are doing some Saturday "catching up!" California State grants totaling $1.5 billion, including more than $383 million for the Port of Long Beach and $233 million for the Port of Los Angeles, have been awarded to help smooth out snags in the supply chain while also reducing air pollution. Some of the Long Beach port’s money will go to a new on-dock rail facility so more cargo can be moved by trains rather than trucks, zero-emission locomotives, and the creation of a grant program to retrofit or replace tugboats and other harbor vessels to reduce pollution. #bluehighways #moveny A report authored by the Center for Post Carbon Logistics https://lnkd.in/e4A536Er provided, in significant part the basis of the Press release and Letter to NYC Mayor Adams produced by a coalition, initiated by Move NY, the campaign behind congestion pricing -- the “Blue Highways” campaign, calling upon the mayor and other lawmakers to move more aggressively to shift freight and package deliveries from city streets to the City’s underutilized waterways. The transition would remove thousands of trucks off city roads and bridges, reduce air pollution, asthma rates and carbon emissions, while improving street safety and New Yorkers’ overall quality of life. The coalition cited the move to maritime freight as inevitable and the next logical climate initiative to further reduce traffic and carbon emissions, following New York’s imminent congestion pricing program that is set to “turn on” in June.

Hi Network, Happy Week ! Check out this exciting news about the Green Light for a Cleaner Transportation! Remember that our goal at #utblogistics is to optimize your ground transport operations to and from the port within each city. ------------------------------------- The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach will provide $25 million for an ambitious partnership with regional air quality agencies to jump-start charging infrastructure for electric heavy-duty drayage trucks in one of the nation’s most populous regions. The $135 million in projects led by the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee will install up to 207 charging units at eight sites around Southern California in Wilmington, Rancho Dominguez, Rialto, Fontana, Commerce and the Port of Long Beach. Contracting for the projects is being administered by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. “We’re investing with our Clean Truck Fund to get both zero-emission (ZE) trucks and infrastructure on the street as quickly as possible,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “In addition to funding charging stations, we’re partnering with the state of California to offer vouchers of up to $250,000 toward the purchase of a ZE heavy-duty truck. Every day, we’re making progress toward our goal of a zero emission port.” In separate actions this week, the Los Angeles Harbor Commission and the Long Beach Harbor Commission each approved allocating $12.5 million from their respective Clean Truck Funds for the plan. The Clean Truck Fund Rate is a key component of the ports’ efforts to transition to a zero-emissions truck fleet by 2035, as established by the Clean Air Action Plan. Rate collection began in April 2022 at $10 per twenty-foot equivalent unit or $20 per forty-foot equivalent unit. Exemptions from the rate are provided for loaded containers hauled by zero-emissions trucks, and under limited circumstances, by low-nitrogen oxide trucks. Through March 2024, the Port of Los Angeles collected about $78 million; the Port of Long Beach has collected almost $75 million. #SustainabilityProfessionals #GreenTransport #Logistics #Logistics #supplychainsolutions #transportation #shipping #supplychainmanagement #freight #logistics #cargo #business #supplychain #transport #logisticscompany #export #import #freightforwarding #manufacturing #freightforwarder #trucks #seafreight

As part of the White House’s strategy to reduce emissions in the freight industry, the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a grant program for ports and supply chain corridors. 16 port-centric projects are to receive close to $150 million from the Reduction of Truck Emissions at Port Facilities program. Aimed at improving air quality and modernizing areas close to commercial ports, the investment will save truck drivers time and will help ports reduce congestion, and therefore emissions. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency will provide close to $1 billion in funding to assist cities, states, and tribal agencies in the transition to a zero-emission outlook, by supporting infrastructure to charge, fuel, and maintain heavy-duty green vehicles. The Department of Energy also announced an investment for the cause. $72 million will establish a program to facilitate affordable and reliable charging infrastructure. #sustainablelogistics #truckingindustry #lowcarbonfuture #electrictrucking #landfreight #alternativefuels #freightforwarding #logisticsmanagement +52 (81) 8174 8000 www.crossdock.mx

🚆 Rail Freight and Climate Action! 🌍 Check out Joseph A.'s Op-ed, shedding light on how rail freight could play a pivotal role in achieving New York's ambitious climate goals. https://lnkd.in/ghHm7t67 Here's a quick rundown: 🌱 Rail freight and climate goals: We delved into how prioritizing rail transportation could significantly contribute to New York's sustainability efforts. With rail being the most carbon-efficient mode of land transportation, it aligns perfectly with our climate targets. 🛤️ Rail innovation and competitiveness: Bing brought up a critical point about policies potentially hindering rail operations. For instance, rules like the minimum crew size could impede competitiveness and stifle innovation within the industry. It's essential to foster an environment that encourages rail's growth and evolution. 🤝 Rail partnership and policy: We concluded on the importance of policymakers viewing rail as a strategic ally in implementing our state's climate plan. By avoiding unnecessary mandates and instead fostering partnerships, we can leverage rail's inherent advantages for a greener future. Let's keep these discussions going and work towards a more sustainable tomorrow! 🌟 #RailFreight #ClimateAction #Sustainability #CLCPA #advocacyinaction #transportation

"Revolutionary Green Overhaul: AQMD Targets Rail Yard Emissions in Southern California" 🔥🚂 BREAKING NEWS: Rail Yards in SoCal Get a Green Overhaul! 🌿🚂 Hold onto your seatbelts, folks, because there's some exciting news coming from the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD)! They're gearing up to introduce new rules to curb emissions at rail yards in Southern California. 🌬️💨 Key Points: ✅ Dirty emissions begone! The AQMD has taken a stance to improve air quality and reduce pollution by targeting rail yards. ✅ Union Pacific, one of the major players in the rail industry, is apparently being a bit stubborn. They're insisting on having public financing in place before they fully commit to the collaborative Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) process. ✅ The AQMD's goal is to work closely with rail companies, stakeholders, and the community to design effective emission reduction strategies. It's no secret that reducing emissions benefits both the environment and public health. Kudos to AQMD for taking steps to address this crucial issue! Let's hope that Union Pacific jumps on board soon. 🌱💚 Hot Take: What a locomotive-load of progress we're seeing! The AQMD's commitment to cleaner air is fantastic, but it seems like Union Pacific needs to take a chill pill and get with the program. Come on, Union Pacific, don't you want to be part of the solution to create a greener future? Hop aboard the emissions-reducing train! 🚂🌿 #CleanAirRevolution #NoEmissionsNoProblems
