"President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, one of the nation’s most significant investments in curbing climate change, was supposed to consider the history of areas like Acres Homes in an attempt to make communities whole again. "By creating a pathway to building the clean energy economy, from expanding electric school bus fleets to subways and mass transit options, it would also serve as a way to reverse the well-documented history of how the country’s highways ripped apart Black communities. As residents were displaced, homeownership chances were stunted, and Black people were left overexposed to pollution from cars and trucks and became most likely to die in car crashes. "Instead, the law is actually increasing pollution and contributing to the continued disruption and displacement of Black communities, according to a new report by the climate policy group Transportation for America. "According to the new report, what has primarily happened is a repeat of that history: freeways, highways, and more roads. Out of the more than 55,000 projects totaling roughly $130 billion implemented through the $1.2 trillion spending package, nearly half of the spending has been allocated to highway expansion."

A new report from the Department of the Interior shows that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is not just about building bridges; it's about building jobs! On average, nearly 18,000 jobs and $2 billion to the economy annually.

16 states receive $5B in federal funds to repair, replace aging bridges The Biden administration announced $5 billion in grants for major bridge reconstruction projects in 16 states, with the funding provided under the bipartisan infrastructure law that directed $40 billion to bridges over five years. The American Road & Transportation Builders Association estimates that about $319 billion is needed for bridge repairs nationwide. This includes $88 million to replace the Market St bridge in Steubenville OH.

President Biden signed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law two years ago today. This is a once-in-a-generation investment in infrastructure and climate resilience. Cities around the country are grappling with crumbling infrastructure—we have a $250 million infrastructure backlog in Missoula alone. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit with U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg about Missoula's infrastructure needs and the impact of the BIL. We've received nearly $100 million in the last year to fund the Downtown Safety, Access, and Mobility project, a new maintenance and operations facility for Mountain Line, and safety improvements on South Avenue. We've also received funds to study safety improvements for Reserve Street and plan a multimodal bus rapid transit corridor on Brooks Street. All these projects will make it easier for people to get around our community, reduce our community's carbon emissions, improve safety for all users, and create good jobs that pay well. Win-win-win. None of this would be possible without Senator Tester's leadership in negotiating the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The law has driven unprecedented opportunities for cities, including Missoula, to rebuild infrastructure while focusing on climate change mitigation—creating stronger and healthier communities in the process. #bipartisaninfrastructurelaw #missoula
