Social Media Manager 📲 | Marketing Specialist 👩🏻💻 | Infusing Personality into Your Brand ✨ | Started out on MySpace now we’re here 😎
If you’re seeing all the Prime Day posts, you might have noticed numerous teachers sharing their Amazon wishlists. Just three summers ago, that was me. Today, I'm in a position where I can help my friends complete their lists. But I wouldn’t be if I hadn’t left teaching. While I’m happy to be able to support other teachers, I can’t help but wonder: Why is this necessary? Why do we think it’s okay for the profession that shapes all other professions, that we trust with our young minds and lives, to be paid so little and expected to cover their own supplies? Let’s be honest: A government-funded classroom might have desks—they may even be decent desks if you’re lucky. But some schools even regulate paper usage. So things like tissues, hand sanitizer, boxes of crayons? Forget about it. Teachers buy those because they care (or they get put on the school supply list so that parents have to pay for them). I would spend hundreds on my classroom each year. Then I could only claim a couple hundred bucks on my tax return. It’s a sickening reality. And we wonder why so many are leaving the profession. Don’t get me wrong, it’s certainly not the only reason, but we need to talk about the state that the education system is in. My message to everyone reading this today: → Support your teachers. → Acknowledge their efforts. → Advocate for better funding and resources. We need to make some necessary changes happen. What do you think it will take to make the system change? 💜 Once an educator, always an educator, Kelsey

Advice for Fathers: At the end of a long day of work and school, many dads will simply ask their sons, “How was your day?” And the typical response is a bluntly delivered, “Good.” Rather than try to start a conversation with a generic question, try being more specific. Avoid questions that can be answered with a single word. As our kids get older, they’ll be less inclined to volunteer information about what’s happening in their lives. Asking pointed questions will help tease out what’s really going on and what’s really on their minds, thus creating a deeper bond with them. A simple and fun way to do this is with “Talking Point” cards that can be purchased from Amazon. It’s a fun and creative way to get your kids engaged in meaningful conversations.

My self-imposed 30-days without Amazon has been quite the experiment. As someone who slowly, over time, started purchasing more and more frequently on the app here's what I've I learned so far: 1. My gifts this year are more thoughtful and creative 2. I’m more aware of local businesses & retailers in my community 3. I’m saving money by reducing impulse purchases Plus, I am supporting my community by my conscience decisions of where to spend my dollars! What do you think your biggest take-aways would be?
