Dear Colleagues, We would like to draw your attention to the Special Session: "Field and laboratory measurements of the effects of infragravity waves on coastal hazards" being organized at the Coastlab24 conference, which will take place in Delft, The Netherlands, from 13-16 May 2024 (see www.coastlab24.nl for more info). If you are interested in having your abstract considered as part of this special session and in joining the discussion on innovative aspects of infragravity waves, please indicate this during the submission process by selecting "infragravity waves" as abstract topic. Please note that the deadline for submission is approaching quickly (1 September 2023, but an extra deadline extension is anticipated). Special Session Description: Infragravity waves play a crucial role in a wide range of nearshore processes, from sediment transport and coastal morphodynamics to wave run-up, coastal flooding and overtopping, making their understanding and prediction key to coastal engineers. Recently, in various new research initiatives, the effect of infragravity waves has been explored in more detail. This session welcomes all contributions on infragravity waves dynamics in relation to coastal hazards where the use of physical modelling and/or field observations plays a large role. Examples of topics include (but are not limited to) beach and dune erosion, seiching/resonance in harbors or other semi-enclosed basins, runup and overtopping, wave impact on structures, etc. We look forward to your participation! And please spread the news quickly! Last year, Lumi’s Sylvie Harton sat down with Quentin Weber at WSP, discussing the changing role for IROs today. They spoke about the role of technology in shaping the future of IR and the strategies IROs can deploy to create a brilliant IR program. Catch up below as we shed light on how IR is ever evolving, with every day presenting different challenges and opportunities for IROs. https://lnkd.in/eAa5v7j5

" Considering that EU #policy and legislation should be developed, implemented and assessed in view of encouraging #innovations, the Better Regulation framework is critical as it aims at ensuring that policymaking is evidence-driven and fit for the future. Ambitious Plans such as the Green Deal, the Digital Strategy -at the EU level- and the UN 2030 Agenda -globally- can leverage current capabilities as well as drive innovation as they will require an abundance of #data and #services to achieve their long-term #objectives." ⬇ Register to the #EXPANDEO 2024, both in presence and online
🌐 Registrations are now open for #EXPANDEO 2024! 📅 June 12-13 📌 Brussels & online This edition marks the 5th anniversary of EXPANDEO, the 10th edition of the EARSC Awards, and the 35th anniversary of our association. What to Expect: ✴ Focus Areas: Policy, Green Transition, Commercialisation, International Partnerships. 💡 Industry Insights: The 2023 EARSC Industry Survey revealed a 7.5% annual growth rate in the Earth Observation (EO) sector. Highly recommend this webinar!
Want to reduce environmental impact and maintenance costs? Mark your calendars for September 7th at 15:00 CET 🍃 – we're diving deep into our ECO sensors powered by indoor solar cells and will answer the question "can you trust a sensor powered by indoor solar cells?" ELSYS and Epishine will clarify the most common misunderstandings about our ECO sensors and discuss where you can benefit from a solar-cell sensor. This webinar will not only shed light on the capabilities of our innovative sensor but also provide insights into our shared vision for a greener and more sustainable future. Hosting the webinar is Pontus Hedenström, Software Developer at ELSYS, together with Jonas Palmér, Director of Business Development at Epishine. Participate and get inspired by the potential of our ECO sensors. We eagerly anticipate your virtual presence at the webinar. “In the current climate, it’s very important to have something that is hard to jam.” These were the introductory words by our co-founder and CTO, Dalius Petrulionis, last week at Eurosatory. He represented Astrolight and had a chance to showcase our POLARIS and ATLAS products, an alternative to traditional RF communication. We won’t give too many spoilers this time, because the interview is out for you to view, but stay alert: • The “laser is the future”, but the future is now - it’s already deployable. • You can have more data transmitted, for cheaper. • It can overcome many traditional RF communication problems, such as lack of security. Check the interview below right away!

Paper is presented at the international conferences TELSIKS 2023 Jovan Milojković, Srđan Brkić, Predrag Ivaniš and Zoran Čiča: “Performance of Handover Execution in Satellite Networks with Shadowed-Rician Fading ”, Telsiks, 16th International Conference on Advanced Technologies, Systems and Services in Telecommunications, 25-27. Oktobar 2023, Niš, pp. 155-158 In this paper we analyze a user-centric handover procedure, which can be used to improve the downstream communication from low Earth orbit satellite network to end users, in presence of shadowed-Rician fading. We consider usage of DVB-S2X protocol and numerically express the improvement, measured by average spectral efficiency and data loss rate, achievable with employment of multiple satellites. The improvement is a consequence of the proposed strategy to predict the signal-to-noise ratio in the considered communication channel.
