Situated at an average altitude of 500 meters above sea level, the four distinctive areas of our estate - I Poggi, Madre, Le Martine, and Ingresso - extend over a territory of 37 hectares of organically managed vineyards. Over time, detailed pedological analyses have guided us in dividing the land into 6 Macrogroups and 15 Soil Units, each representing a unique micro-terroir significantly different from one another, both in terms of soil type and vegetative development and ripening times. Each parcel thus becomes an autonomous "microcosm" that requires targeted interventions and continuous monitoring, allowing us to assess the ripeness level of the grapes from each unit and to schedule the optimal moment for their harvest, followed by separate vinification. Through initiatives like recording birdsong on AAA farms in Costa Rica and Columbia, Nestlé/Nespresso portrays itself as a champion of environmental preservation, suggesting that happy birds equate to a flourishing natural ecosystem and exceptional coffee quality. While Nestlé/Nespresso's marketing narrative may evoke sentiments of environmental responsibility, a closer examination reveals a stark contrast between rhetoric and reality. Despite the emphasis on sustainability, Nestlé/Nespresso's global coffee trading practices have been associated with several contentious issues over the past decade. 1. Environmental Impact: a. Deforestation: Nestlé/Nespresso's expansion in coffee-producing regions has been linked to deforestation, as demand for coffee cultivation leads to the conversion of natural habitats into monoculture coffee plantations. This encroachment on forested areas threatens biodiversity and disrupts delicate ecosystems. b. Chemical Usage: Intensive coffee farming practices, including the use of pesticides and fertilizers, contribute to soil degradation and water pollution, further exacerbating environmental degradation. 2. Social Implications: a. Labor Exploitation: Nestlé/Nespresso's reliance on coffee-producing regions with lax labor regulations raises concerns about labor exploitation and inadequate working conditions for coffee farmers and laborers. b. Economic Disparities: The concentration of wealth and power within the global coffee trade perpetuates economic disparities, with small-scale coffee farmers often marginalized and economically disadvantaged. Conclusion: Nestlé/Nespresso's portrayal of itself as a beacon of sustainability and ethical sourcing is undercut by the realities of its global coffee trading practices. [AWARDS 2024] pour Dom Brial The AOC Côtes du Roussillon Villages spans 1,741 hectares, primarily in the northern part of the Roussillon, and includes four specific villages identified for their unique terroir: Latour de France, Caramany, Lesquerde, and Tautavel. Soil types can be broken down as follows: Latour de France: Brown Schist; Caramany: Gneiss and Granite; Lesquerde: Granite (some of the most exciting Syrahs come from this village); and Tautavel: Red Clay and Limestone. All of these AOCs allow only red wines to be produced and the allowed varieties mirror that of the AOC Côtes du Roussillon. An exception being that Mourvèdre is not allowed under the AOC Côtes du Roussillon Villages Caramany and AOC Côtes du Roussillon Villages Lesquerde.
