I have just read that Carlsberg will be buying Britvic, this looks like a really strong acquisition to me. Bucking the trend of big brewing giants simply snapping up the next challenger microbrewery to extend their current portfolio and defend their position in the market. This deal makes a lot of sense, they get to diversify in a big way into the soft drinks market which is going to be an important market as the younger generations move away from heavy alcohol intake. There is also good synergy with the two companies both having deals with PepsiCo which is a nice sweetener. Is this the best business acquisition I’ve seen in a long while? With operating costs increasing significantly in various markets, the benefits of scaling up and blending the line between beverage offerings only makes sense. We will see more manufacturers and distributors diversify their product offerings.

Anheuser-Busch InBev shares rose more than 5% on Wednesday, in response to a strong first-quarter performance and anticipated relief from the impact of an ongoing US Bud Light boycott. The world’s largest brewer reported a 2.6% rise in revenues, in line with expectations, and better-than-forecast EBITDA and volumes, including in North America, its largest region by revenues, analysts said. The company, which makes Stella Artois and Corona beer, said it had record volumes in some of its markets, including Brazil and South Africa. EBITDA, meanwhile, grew 5.4%, well ahead of the 1.9% expected by analysts. Anheuser-Busch InBev Rises on Good Results The shares of the world’s largest brewer, Anheuser-Busch InBev, rose 4% in early trading on Tuesday after the company reported strong quarterly results, despite the ongoing boycott of Bud Light in the U.S., which drove down the revenue from the country by 13.5%. Offset by good performance in the remaining regions, the overall company Q3 revenue rose 5% to $15.57 bln., ahead of the company’s forecast of 4.7%. Adjusted earnings rose 4.1% to $5.4 bln. Investors were enheartened by AB Inbev’s announcement of a $1 bln. share buyback over the next 12 months. According to analysts, AB Inbev, along with the other major global brewers Carlsberg and Heineken, is reaping the benefits of higher prices and clients opting for more premium brands, despite them drinking less.
