Abit late in posting but proud to be part of this Team & Company, afew weeks ago the Avionics department I work in had a little spotlight Piece written about us highlighting the important Roll we have in supporting new customer aircraft and also the keeping current contracts maintained.. An introduction into Avionics - Avionics is the term used to describe the Electronic Units used within an Aircraft. AVIONICS hosts a number of disciplines from System Specialists, Software engineers, Simulation designers and an Operations team that support them. System specialists cover all avionic systems for all platforms and are required to design the avionic architectures, manage the technical interfaces between each system and provide data packs to Electrical Installation Design (EID) to help with design of the aircraft installation. For every active Helicopter programme, it is necessary to have a Full System Integration Rig (FSIR) built in advance of the Aircraft. This enables all avionic systems to be fitted together during the development phase to ensure they communicate correctly, and that the systems under development can be fully tested prior to flight. The Operations team within the building manufacture and maintained these FSIRs, as well as providing an electronics manufacturing and software loading facility for in-service systems. Aircraft development activities tend to require FSIRs to be available about 12 months prior to first flight, as a result this requires the build to begin “at risk” with draft data packs. This approach enables early visibility of the systems which can inform EID of any issues prior to the Aircraft build.
