"There are no Sunset Industries, Only Sunset Thinking" and other key insights from the 2nd Future-Ready Businesses Dialogue. I recently had the privilege of attending the 2nd Future-Ready Businesses (FRB) Dialogue on June 27, 2024, organized by the Singapore Business Federation where businesses heard from and got to discuss with Deputy PM Heng Swee Keat. Here are some of the key takeaways for me: 1. Resilience: Resilience was a key topic from looking at COVID years, to handling the AI wave. Discussions highlighted how robots and robotics are pivotal in building resilience within Singapore, reducing our supply chain dependencies on other countries. Are we as a country and businesses prepared for another pandemic? 2. The Pragmatism of Sustainability: Singapore has always prided itself on it's pragmatism, and a question asked was whether Sustainability is Pragmatic. I found the answer from the DPM very enlightening on this - Our small size means that if we ignore sustainable practices, other countries could penalize us, impacting our global interactions and the FTAs that we have. Additionally, being green is now integral to our employer brand, as people increasingly prefer to work with sustainable companies. 3. There are no Sunset Industries, Only Sunset Thinking: I just loved this quote. It was in the context of a discussion on traditional businesses and modernisation/relevance. 4. Financial Preparedness: Singapore’s unique approach to handling COVID-19, using reserves rather than debt, speaks volumes about the foresight of the earlier generations. As companies and a nation, we must prepare with similar wisdom for future challenges. Overall, it was an enriching experience and I look forward to applying these learnings and staying future-ready! #FutureReadyBusinesses #SBFDialogue #Innovation #Collaboration #SingaporeBusiness #Sustainability #AI #Resilience #EconomicGrowth impress.ai Mohamed Farook Amrith D.
