🚀 Heating Up My Knowledge 🔥 On my way into a new business (ectogrid™) I just had the most mind-blowing crash course in the art of decentralizing heating and cooling, with the help of the brilliant Thomas Ranstorp. I would never have guessed this morning - that in just one hour, I'd be taking a rocket ride through decades of technology development and energy basics. Thomas has the magic skill of making complex concepts feel like a breeze (or should I say a perfectly balanced breeze? 😉). All the #kudos to you Thomas! Honestly, I'm very humble and I realize I've peaked at 1% of the knowledge I need going into this new business, but I'm ready to ride this wave of knowledge straight into 2024 with all the talented people around me at E.ON and E.ON Sverige! 🏄♂️ And here's the kicker: My New Year's resolution is to give a weekly kudos to people around me that makes me #grow. I recently had to introduce myself to a new community with a written bio. When I looked at the bio I’ve used for years, it didn’t fit anymore. I mean, yeah, all of it was accurate, but it was a snapshot of the past. Over the last 14 months, so much new has happened. Anyhow, here’s the new intro (almost verbatim)… “I’m Matt, so many of your names are familiar, a few of us have met. It’s great to be here. I’m pushing up against 30 years in the industry with Cobalt, ADP, CDK, and Marchex. I’ve spent the last 14 months consulting and going deep on EVs, EV charging, and vehicles as a demand-response tool or distributed energy resource (DER). I’ve got ideas to turn floorplan into a profit center. [Our host] and I met through work I’m doing with www.Coltura.org. Coltura’s mission is to reduce consumption of gasoline. Did you know that the US is the #1 consumer of gas? Sure. Did you know that the top 10% of personally owned vehicles in the US are collectively the 3rd largest consumers of gasoline in the world, between #2 China and #4 the EU. 🤯 Coltura has big ideas for converting gas guzzlers to EV owners. I work with a consultancy that provides engineering resources and advisory support to awesome companies, primarily focused on carbon-removal tech, but the team has deep experience in industrial design and development across many industries. Need to prototype something, we do that. When I’m not talking about EVs, batteries, and local energy, you may find me facilitating the Climate Fresk (www.climatefresk.org) or EN-ROADS (https://lnkd.in/ggHbUHnY) workshops. I’m happiest when I’m on the side of a pool with an announcer’s mic calling swim meets. Directly related to the space available for installations, and suitability of the available solutions/concepts. 2️⃣ 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐞 & 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬.  Bear in mind climate change, too, and how it would affect the "winds of the future". It's a long-term commitment. 3️⃣ 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐞? 𝐖𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐬!  Different routes can mean lesser wind availability, and you'd might want to take that into your ROI calculation on time. 4️⃣ 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 Early learnings with available technologies, or waiting for more suitable solutions for your requirements? 5️⃣ 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲.  What is acceptable risk for you and your crew? 6️⃣ 𝐍𝐞𝐰𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝? 𝐑𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭? Make the most of today, or purpose-build around the efficiency of tomorrow? You get the point. Yuri Tsitrinbaum, Co-Founder and CEO of BomVento, plans to transform wind turbines to sequester greenhouse gases. "Our solution leverages existing infrastructure that already interacts with massive volumes of air, transforming it into dual-purpose assets", he says. "By integrating our technology, these turbines not only generate clean energy but also capture greenhouse gases at scale." 👩🔬 The basic idea is to coat the turbine blades with a special material like a film or paint-like substance. The layer of coating facilitates a chemical reaction, helping to clean the air as the turbine operates. "While the science behind our concept is sound, we are indeed pioneering a unique approach – no one has done precisely what we're doing. That's why we're currently setting up our lab with the support of EIT Climate-KIC and other partners."
