In the midst of scrolling through post after post about performance reviews on LinkedIn, David Hanrahan's insight is 💯. Overhaling your performance management program isn't the magic wand to fix it's issues - it is shiny object syndrome cloaked as a solution to your problems. After I ran the first cycle my first performance management program, I gathered data from our employees and benchmarked this feedback against my Performance & Growth Philosophy. While there were successes, a big takeaway was that the program had missed the mark one of my key pillars of success - fast and actionable feedback. Instead of scraping the whole thing, I dug into the issues and made the following changes: ✔ Adjusted the cadence of conversations from annually to quarterly to ensure feedback was happening more often. ✔ Established a training program for managers to deliver quality and effective feedback, both affirmative and redirecting or constructive.
