It’s time for another Hamra High Five! Kimberly Chalifour is a Training General Manager for Southern Bread. She started as an Assistant Manager in 2017 and says she felt “like I was back where I belonged….If it weren’t for Hamra truly caring about people and making it a priority to grow and develop their people, I don’t know where life would have taken me.” Kimberly has built an incredible career with Hamra, working for Boston Bread as a General Manager, Training Manager and Market Manager before moving to Southern Bread to serve as a General Manager, and now a Training General Manager. Distilling workforce. Predicting the future with no crystal ball. If you have ever spoken to me about distilling you would probably know my passion for distilling comes from the desire to help people in the industry to access the help or training they need to start up or skill up. I have been lucky enough to be able to help people in the industry since 2016, when the Tasmanian Whisky Academy started delivering Foundations of Distilling training. I met even more folk in the industry when I started to deliver the Institute of Brewing & Distilling technical training here in Australia and when I met Troy, Brett, Ian and Marcel and we started The Distillers Institute (Australia) in 2020. From 2016 through to 2023, I met over 500 people from the industry and others thinking of joining the industry. Some of those people were career changes, other looking to work in the industry, some testing the water and others looking to be the best technical distiller they could. All these kind people know themselves here, and I am delighted with their many many successes. What I have seen during this time is a shift from mum and dad operations to a much more disciplined approach to business, planning and recruitment. I have seen a shift in size and scale of distilleries with many of those smaller operations now employing and growing. In many cases, our support through one of the distilling training entities has helped them on their way. In a few months I will be heading off on the Winston Churchill Trust (Australia) for a deep dive into distilling training. So I am not sure what the crystal ball will tell, but I'm hoping to bring back some gold to help more distilling folks build their skills and knowledge in the industry. #distilling #futurefocused #training #crystalball #whisky

Snapped today as a drayman was helping to quench the thirst of customers in a busy London pub. It took me back to when I started work as a graduate trainee over 40 year ago in a Schweppes distribution depot – it made me think how much has really changed in the supply chain? Sure we have GPS tracking, In Vehicle Monitoring Systems, AI for vehicle scheduling, digital delivery notes and even electric vehicles but the back breaking work of delivering to the customer looks very much the same. The driver rolls the barrels of beer off the back of the vehicle onto a “pig” which cushions the impact, rolls it over to the pub cellar and then lowers it into subterranean London.          Never mind the last mile it’s the last 10 yards where real value is delivered to the customer Back in the day the drayman would be rewarded with half a pint of beer at each pub, you can imagine what state they were by the time they got back to the depot after 20 plus deliveries! ROLE SUMMARY: Seasonals at Anheuser-Busch train and work beside full-time operators in a manufacturing environment during the busiest months of the year. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor and operate high-speeded production equipment and/or complex brewing systems with attention to detail and a sense of urgency. Perform industrial cleaning of production lines, production work areas or other parts of the facility to maintain strict food plant sanitation standards. Perform process quality control checks and work on a team. Ensure all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), Reaction Plans and sanitation practices are followed at all times. Operate industrial equipment such as forklifts, in order to load, unload, and/or transport packaging materials, raw materials, and finish products
