Vanessa V.’s Post

I recently had a virtual coffee chat with a person trying their best to find a job after graduating with a CS degree. They soaked up my advice and then said at the end that they enjoy my content because the content is actually helpful. 🥹♥️ But guess what? It’s the same advice I share to all my coffee chats regardless of their situation. If your issue is that you lack experience then get experience by doing some free work like volunteering, unpaid internships or freelance (like offering a local business your skills). Paid freelance is the hardest because you need to market yourself, gain customers, and deal with tax/LLC stuff to protect yourself. (https://lnkd.in/gBKDDhdN) If your issue is not getting a response from applications, hire a resume editor to take a look at your resume and get professional feedback. Free resume advice can go so far and you don’t want to take up the time of these volunteers to rewrite your resume. It takes work, time, and careful deliberation. (https://lnkd.in/gRjekAfY) You know your issues. Write out what they are and figure out the creative ways to solve them. You are a developer/engineer: a problem solver. You will be paid to SOLVE PROBLEMS. One of the first steps in solving a problem is doing a Google search. That’s how I found ALL the tech resources that I’m sharing for free. Tips like this were useful pre-2021 where getting a job was easy. But now it seems different with entry level roles requiring 2+ years, and having 6000 applicants. 😀
