Scalp Em Washington Football Cartoon Shirt In conclusion, the recent controversy surrounding the use of the term "Redskins" by the Washington Football Team has brought to light the ongoing issue of cultural appropriation and racial insensitivity in the world of sports. By finally retiring the outdated and offensive moniker and rebranding as the Washington Football Team, the organization has taken a step in the right direction towards inclusivity and respect for Native American communities. However, the team's decision to use a cartoon-like scalp emblem as their temporary logo has sparked further debate and criticism. While some argue that the cartoon image does not hold the same negative connotations as the word "Redskins," others believe that any depiction of Native American culture, even in a humorous manner, is still offensive and reinforces harmful stereotypes. Furthermore, the use of this cartoon emblem also perpetuates the objectification and commodification of Native American culture, reducing it to a mere caricature for the entertainment of others. This not only disrespectfully ignores the rich history and traditions of indigenous peoples, but also contributes to the erasure of their voices and experiences. A few days late but posting some more campaigns I've been able to work on and to shake things up focusing on some #athletes I've partnered with and executed campaigns for. Russell Westbrook: In the realm of fashion, I played a pivotal role in building Russell’s brand as a trailblazer in the sports fashion world. You know those tunnel walks every NBA player now uses as a catwalk? Well I used to spam fashion editors daily with Russells looks for every playoff series and fashion week with street style paparazzi photos we orchestrated throughout the whole of  2015 -2017. Now it has become a media standard coverage style in the intersection of sports x fashion, and the status quo for athletes to flaunt their style. I also helped strategically align him with major brands, such as the CFDA and Rizzoli leading to Westbrook becoming the first non-traditional designer to have his own brand and store in Barney's history. As a result, Westbrook emerged as a leader and icon in the sports fashion movement during my collaboration with him and his team. Amar’e Stoudemire:  I played a pivotal role in conceiving and launching Amar'e Stoudemire's IN THE PAINT Series in 2016. IN THE PAINT was an experiential art program designed to benefit underprivileged youth in communities nationwide. My involvement included facilitating collaborations between Amar'e and contemporary artists like Hebru Brantley, Daniel Arsham, and RETNA. Together with the youth in each target city, Amar'e and the artists engaged in collaborative + interactive painting sessions creating unique art installations. The artwork produced during these events were later auctioned, generating funds to support local art and recreation centers in key cities across the country like LA, Chicago, and Miami. Who wants to talk about models!? I'll throw in backstabbing billionaires and treachery — And the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue — Those amazing models .... Oh, I'm talking about business models! Were you confused? I am too because what's happening to Sports Illustrated isn't about the power of the brand, the quality of the coverage or the interest of the audience. Sports Illustrated is in danger — Its staff facing layoffs, because billionaires are gutting the storied title for cash. ↔The Arena Group licensed Sports Illustrated publishing rights from Authentic Brands. ▶ Arena pays Authentic $15 million annually ▶ They start the year $15 million in the hole ↔ Authentic Brands rolls up into private equity corporations. ▶ They leverage SI's trademark to make money 🍸 A Sports Illustrated Party in Vegas? 🍸 Maybe hit Club SI at the Kentucky Derby? 🤔 None of this revenue supports the magazine. Don't spend a second crying for Arena! ▶ They published AI articles in Sports Illustrated and gave them fake bylines to make the content credible. They're willing to hurt quality to save on salaries. ▶ Sports Illustrated makes up 2/3 of Arena's $250 million in revenue. It's true, magazines are expensive to operate. It's also true SI is delivering cash. And Authentic Brands? ▶ They like an "asset light" approach to lower costs and produce giant margins ▶ They're squeezing SI, taking everything they can. 💥 It doesn't have to be this way. 💥 Publishers can have healthy business models that support their staff, mission and deliver for the communities they serve. 😡 What publishers can't do is feed business models that demand ever increasing profits. 😡 Publishers cannot support the weight of billionaires who need to guild their pockets. Greed might save SI yet. Authentic Brands can't let it go under. They've got over 20 licensing deals depending on its name. We go to big games/ stadiums, celebrate and cheer for our favorite teams, wear certain jerseys and uphold certain family & friend traditions. Look at the family and football traditions many of us enjoyed on Thanksgiving Day, whether playing in a family/friend "Turkeybowl" game or watching the Lions vs. Packers at Ford Field (in person or on TV). Many cheer for our favorite NFL, college and high school teams. When I wanted to get into sports my why was always “To make a direct impact through sports because that’s what sports gave to me and my mission is to pay it forward.” Even better when it’s a group of kids who are hyped to show off their football knowledge and love for the game. Making the kids days is what it’s all about. One person wearing a curly blue wig is a nut. 1000 people wearing them is front page news. Blue Wig Spirit!! I talk about it a lot…but what does it mean?! Back in the early days of 1-800-GOT-JUNK? we didn’t have much of a marketing budget - we had to be creative with how we got our name out there. It all started in Las Vegas. We wore branded bowling vests, these cheap curly blue wigs, and we went everywhere in a group. The reaction from everyone that saw us was so huge that we knew we had to do it again!! Fast Forward to the 1994 Stanley Cup playoffs. We turned up with over a thousand blue wigs and started handing them out from the back of one of our trucks before the game. They weren’t expensive or even the least bit fashionable - but the infectious spirit and energy surrounding us and these wigs created a scene. People were lining up to get one. "Where'd you get those, what's that about?" “Oh the 1-800-GOT-JUNK? guys were giving them out” Soon, the press wanted the inside scoop, so we told them all about how 1-800-GOT-JUNK? supported fan spirit (and, conveniently, our trucks - emblazoned with our logo and phone number - were right in the background)! It was one of those organic moments that is just so fun and a bit goofy, and we were feeling good…and then I got a call from my wife. “Brian, you’re on every single TV channel!!!” That Blue Wig Spirit stuck. From TV to the front page of the local newspaper and even featured on the 1995 Vancouver Canucks Sports & Entertainment (CSE) season ticket (hi, Trevor Linden! ), our wigs were everywhere! They became part of us, with our PR guy Tyler rocking one for that extra boost anytime he pitched the press a story. And okay sure, we might not be wearing the physical blue wigs in meetings today (maybe I’ll start?! 😜 ) but Blue Wig Spirit is now part of all of us. It’s a reminder that there's magic in embracing the playful side of work, and the power of possibility. We take our business seriously, but not ourselves!! Sports Illustrated is dead… 💔 How did this happen? Here’s what we know so far: ⭐ Despite still having a relevant brand (that was even pretty popular as a virtual asset), this didn’t translate into sales. Sports Illustrated (SI) figured out how to create viral moments and remain a brand that people cared about, but people weren’t buying. ⭐ SI’s publisher (The Arena Group) terminated their CEO (Ross Levinsohn) after a very public AI article-generation scandal at SI. Sports Illustrated allegedly used AI platforms to generate content under the names of fictitious reporters and writers. After Levinsohn was ousted, Arena installed Manoj Brahgava as interim CEO (the founder of 5-Hour Energy). ⭐ On January 18th 2024, Authentic Brands Group (owner of the Arena Group) pulled Arena Group’s license to print. On the morning of Jan 19th, Arena Group announced that it would be laying off the entire staff of Sports Illustrated. ⭐ In 2019, Authentic Brands Group purchased Sports Illustrated for $110 million, and in November of 2022 Arena Group announced “record revenue”. ⭐ Now the company is gutted and almost the entire staff has been terminated. ⭐ After SI’s mass layoff, former CEO Ross Levinsohn resigned his board seat, citing “the destruction of Sports Illustrated’s storied brand and newsroom” as the last straw. ⭐ It will take time for the smoke to clear on this one, and we can’t speculate too deeply until we have more information. Youth participation in sports is declining... so the NFL is getting wildly creative to bring in the next generation of football fans. They partnered with Nickelodeon for a live SuperBowl broadcast, going viral all day yesterday ⬇️ ESPN, the NFL, and CBS alike were all sharing clips from the Nickolodeon broadcast, helping it resonate not only for younger fans... but also adult fans who could create virality by posting on socials. If you watched the Nickolodeon broadcast, you could expect: ✨ Live commentary from Spongebob Squarepants & Patrick Star, all made possible by reality-augmented animation in-real-time. Oh an Sandy reporting from the field! ✨ Education about the game from Rules Analyst Dora The Explorer, explaining technical terms like a "Holding Call" and "False Start" in a way children can understand ✨ Augmented animations throughout the game to make it more kid-friendly, like Larry the Lobster popping up on the field during a play, Plankton showing up to crop dust the people in the stands (lol), and slime on the field after every touchdown. ✨ Instead of panning to real-celebrities, they panned to their fish look-alikes in Bikini Bottom like Jason Kelpe, Taylor Fish, Clamuel L. Jackson, Doja Catfish, Billie Eelish, LePrawn James, Fin Diesel, Herring Styles, Olivia Codrigo and more. ✨ Oh and not to mention, little nods to the Swifties / younger female fans by referring to Travis Kelce as "Taylor Swift's Boyfriend" who is "Good at Football" featured below. -- This was a genius marketing move. We've seen the power of Taylor Swift bringing in female fans (and adding over $300M in value to the NFL), and now we're going to see a younger generation of fans engaged through partnerships like this on the biggest stage.
