Season 3 of “Bridgerton” has officially joined the list of Netflix's most popular titles of all time. With a cumulative 91.9 million views since May 16 premiere, the season ranks at No. 10 on the all time English-language TV chart, which Netflix measures based on views during each title’s first 91 days of streaming. In May of 2022, Netflix’s stock was at a 5 year low. That month, they implemented a new “Culture of Excellence” standard. They committed to creating incredible content and letting the consumer decide what to watch. 18 months later, the stock is up over 150% and Netflix is releasing viewership data for the first time. 9/10 top shows were all created by Netflix. They seem to have found a repeatable, profitable, business model, whereas many streaming services have failed. The below quote from Netflix is a simple guide on how they will continue to measure success. “It’s all about whether a movie or TV show thrilled its audience—and the size of that audience relative to the economics of the title.”

Netflix announced on April 18, 2023 that it would stop sending out DVD rentals on September 29, 2023. The streaming service's last DVD was sent out on Friday, September 29, 2023. Netflix will continue to accept returns until October 27, 2023, and will not charge for discs sent out after September 29. Netflix will also send up to 10 extra discs to subscribers who are still subscribed to the DVD service. In April 2023, Netflix cited a shrinking market as the reason for the closure. In 2021, Netflix's non-streaming revenue, mostly from DVDs, was 0.6% of its total revenue. The cost of operating its DVD business may also be a factor. #netflix #nimeum

Streaming services are beginning to lose their magic 👇 Audiences jumped on Netflix because the deal was too good to pass up. An all-you-can-eat buffet of film and television, 24 hours a day, for less than the price of one brand new Blu-ray disc. That’s why 99% of all households in the U.S. subscribe to at least one streaming platform. How many of those households still purchase films on disc? More than you’d think. 💿 According to research by Circana, 26% of households still bought DVDs or Blu-rays last year, and I believe we’ll see that number rise over the next five years. 45% of households cancelled a streaming service in 2023, citing higher prices as the main factor. Audiences continue to be annoyed when their cherished films spontaneously disappear from the platform they’re subscribed to. On top of that, we’ve all felt paralysis of choice whilst staring at the home screen, scrolling hundreds of titles for twenty minutes before settling on another episode of Friends. 🛋️
