Boeing and Airbus Eye Spirit AeroSystems Deals Value of deals could total some $9 billion Efforts to address supply chain instability and quality assurance have seen Boeing and Airbus each sign deals to potentially acquire their respective interests in Spirit AeroSystems, the companies said on Monday. The moves come amid calls by lawmakers and regulators for Boeing to better manage its safety systems following the in-flight blowout of a door plug on an Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9 in March. The definitive agreement between Boeing and Spirit would involve an all-stock transaction valued at $4.7 billion. The total value would reach $8.3 billion based on Spirit’s last reported net debt. Spirit manufactures fuselage sections for four Bombardier business jets—the Challenger 650 and 3500, and Global 5500 and 6500. It also supplies engine nacelles for the Challenger 650 and Global 5500 and 6500, as well as the composite horizontal stabilizers for the Global 7500. Spirit’s Casablanca site assembles emergency doors for the Challenger 3500 and the floors for the Global 5500 and 6500. “We believe this deal is in the best interest of the flying public, our airline customers, the employees of Spirit and Boeing, our shareholders, and the country more broadly,” said Boeing president and CEO Dave Calhoun. "By reintegrating Spirit, we can fully align our commercial production systems, including our safety and quality management systems, and our workforce to the same priorities, incentives, and outcomes—centered on safety and quality." Meanwhile, Airbus contracts with Spirit for the production of A350 fuselage sections in Kinston, North Carolina, and Saint-Nazaire, France; the A220’s wings and mid-fuselage in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Casablanca, Morocco; and the A220 pylons in Wichita. The potential deal would see Spirit compensate Airbus $559 million for control over those activities. “With this agreement, Airbus aims to ensure stability of supply for its commercial aircraft programs through a more sustainable way forward, both operationally and financially, for the various Airbus work packages that Spirit AeroSystems is responsible for today,” the company said in a written statement. https://lnkd.in/gX9tnkfz

BREAKING NEWS in Business Aviation: Gulfstream G700 has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type certification. Two new performance improvements were also announced: 1) The balanced field length takeoff distance improved to 5,995 ft/1,827 m. 2) The landing distance is now only 3,150 ft/960 m. The aircraft’s range is 7,750 nautical miles/14,353 kilometers at Mach 0.85. The G700 maximum operating speed is Mach 0.935, making it the fastest in the Gulfstream fleet. This type certification clears the way for customer deliveries of the G700.

According to Hagerty Jet Group, an aircraft broker specialising in Gulfstream Aerospace jets, the market for preowned business jets will become softer as Gulfstream G700 deliveries begin, “The Gulfstream market has been anticipating this certification for more than a year…the market will feel an impact from so many aircraft coming for sale because of the G700 deliveries, regardless of the brand.” Hagerty also noted that the supply of preowned Gulfstreams was at “near historic high levels” in the first quarter. It then proceeds to explain that preowned transactions were down 56% quarter-over-quarter. Year-over-year depreciation of in-production Gulfstreams ranged between 8% and 16%. Although nearly four dozen completed G700s are ready to be delivered, Hagerty Jet Group notes that “deliveries will be staggered by the availability to train crews and obtain foreign certifications…EASA certification is still pending and likely a few months away.” Who else is excited to see the G700 in action across the globe?

Four Airbus A380s lined up to be scrapped, high demand for superjumbo parts  Aviation logistics firm VAS Aero Services and lessor Dr. Peters Group have signed a contract for the aircraft teardown and asset redistribution of four Airbus A380 aircraft.  It is not the first time the two companies have worked together to scrap Airbus A380 aircraft and redistribute used serviceable material (USM). VAS and Dr. Peters partnered in the first dismantlement of an A380 ever to be designated for teardown. Great news for Aerospace Wales member Airbus and the Broughton wing manufacturing site as the company secures a major order from Turkish Airlines. Türkiye’s national carrier, Turkish Airlines, will expand its fleet with an order for 220 Airbus aircraft. This latest order will take Turkish Airlines’ total orderbook for Airbus aircraft to 504, of which 212 are already delivered. This is made up of 150 Airbus’ best selling A321s and 70 A350 widebody aircraft (50 A350-900s, 15 A350-1000s and 5 A350F freighters). The A350 family aircraft are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.
