The EU has announced its 'European Declaration on Cycling', including dedicated new funding and policy support to promote bike use and the bloc’s cycling industry. As well as formally recognizing the vital role cycling can play in decarbonizing the bloc’s transport sector, the declaration makes cycling a strategic priority. CIE CEO Kevin Mayne spoke today at the POLIS Network Cycling Declaration breakfast, alongside POLIS Secretary General Karen Vancluysen and European Cyclists' Federation CEO Jill Warren. The panel praised the #EUCyclingDeclaration as a pivotal policy document for the cycling community and covered several highlights:  📈 Recognition of the cycling industry's potential to contribute to economic growth 🤝 Building capacity and structures to support Europe’s growing cycling economy 🌐 The significance of collecting and using data to benchmark mobility policies and ridership 🚴♂️ The importance of developing multi-modal solutions focused on sustainable transport 🏡 Exploring new solutions for bike sharing in suburban areas   CIE’s expert groups have been pivotal to identify, discuss and promote policy solutions that enable cycling like the ones covered during today’s event. New data from PeopleForBikes finds that England is lagging behind Europe for how cycling-friendly its towns and cities are. England received an average city score of 59 out of 100, compared with an average European city score of 71 when England is excluded. “The uptake of cycling in cities is directly connected to government priorities. When government leaders invest in making cycling more accessible and appealing, more people choose cycling for everyday transportation,” PeopleForBikes President and CEO Jenn Dice told Zag Daily. “If more cities in England make similar long-term commitments to invest in cycling, they will gradually catch up to their European peers.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/e7ttCK9p
