🚀 INNOVATE TO ELEVATE 🚀 Almost a week ago, I traveled to the UK to attend the Female Founder Raise conference and it was so energizing to connect with 200+ inspiring minds in the entrepreneurial landscape. There were amazing presentations and panels by incredible people who gave tons of insights and tips to help us on our journey. 🙌 🔥 Yet the thing that struck me was the most was the discussions of women paving their own path. It aligns with one of the values of Zielo Studio to "innovate to elevate." Collective elevation happens when we challenge the norms and intentionally expand our Mindset Energy. It's not just about the state of mind from which we operate that propels us towards greatness, it is also how we take action. For example...we all rise when ⚡ Founders reflect on their fundraising process and unique needs for their business - clarifying their metrics, focusing on profitability and aligning with their values. Founders benefit more from authentically conveying their vision and customer needs, and not just merely catering to perceived investor expectations. ⚡ Investors challenge the typical fundraising process and systems in place - to foster mindset shifts. How much are they challenging their biases - like affinity bias, the tendency to favor people who share similar interests, backgrounds, and experiences; or confirmation bias - the tendency to listen more often to information that confirms our existing beliefs. It's a call for collective accountability—embracing diversity and inclusion for holistic benefits. This isn't a gender thing; it's about promoting and embracing differences. Kudos to the founders forging authentic paths, not as rebels but as true visionaries. Your unique journey is not only impactful but crucial for your well-being. A day that is meant for celebrating and uplifting women has too often been turned into a day for virtue signalling and tokenistic pledges to ‘be better’. So where does that leave us. Do nothing? Us, women, we do definitely know how to make our ways through different industries, even if there’re invisible walls and glass ceilings to crush. 🤜🚧 However there’re industries that are still considered a tough cookie to chew, and venture capital is one of them, especially in emerging countries. But luckily, we have our rocks to rely on in every little sector, and #AuroraTechAward jury member Sullyen Almeida is definitely one of them. As a principal at monashees, a pioneer venture capital company in Latin America, she has been coordinating investments in education, enterprise, health, and emerging tech since 2015, helping outstanding companies tap into large markets. So no wonder she is the one to speak at LatAm conferences on behalf of crises and opportunities of the region, alongside with the industry sharks. You may ask why it feels so inseam with her big talks about the future of technology, however, considering her background it could be a given: “I fell in love with technology and entrepreneurship I think since I was very young. My father is an entrepreneur and he started to sell computers very-very early on in Limeira which is a small city in the state of Sao Paulo. And I had access to the Internet super early.” Having earned a BA in Technology after graduating from Technical College in Limeira and then from Illinois Institute of Technology, she looks at the bigger picture. That’s how she seeks the opportunities even in the darkest times: “The pandemic connected Latin America with the world, and we are in a stage of globalization of talent and projects.” That’s the mindset we’re looking forward to in the Aurora Tech Award, too! And finally, when talking about women's representation in technology, she is quite optimistic. “We have so few women still [in the industry], especially raising more capital, but taking the risks. [...] But definitely there are more women coming as a founding team across several Industries - fintech, marketplace, logistics, but also education”. We are certain that having Sullyen Almeida on our jury board will increase the attention to women in tech, and we are glad to have her taking care of our future winners! 👉Having a jury with such an approach adds to the intrigue of who's going to take the prize, doesn't it? One of many highlights as a first timer on TechBBQ! 🥓 European Women in VC launched their 2023 report calling to discuss the massive gender & diversity gap in tech and venture capital. Presence of women isn't just about diversity; it's a catalyst for improved IRR fund performance and reduced volatility in fund returns. Huge gratitude to 🚀Kinga Stanislawska and the European Women in VC team for their constant efforts shedding light on the gender perspective within the ecosystem. Action is needed. And it goes beyond gender to nationalities, personality profiles, etc. At our PreSeed Ventures DeepTech team we're challenging the status quo with a 50% female/male team and a 50% female/male founder ratio within our 4 investments. I've made great friends through the Social Innovation Summit and met many of my favorite people, but I feel a little bit guilty. What an experience TechBBQ in Copenhagen was... Thank you TechBBQ for organising an event with diversity in speakers, which in turn attracted a diversity in attendees - so refreshing!   Over the two days I met so many incredible women doing incredible things. I learnt so much and had so many great conversations. Some of my key takeaways: 💥 There is power in women coming together - thank you Even Founders & SexTech Nordics for organising the Women x Health x Tech mixer. 🔥 SexTech: the next trillion dollar category in tech - Cindy Gallop’s words of wisdom really hit home for me - ‘There’s a huge amount of money to be made out of taking women seriously’ & ‘when you have a truly world-changing startup, you have to change the world to fit it, not he other way around’ - on it! 💸 Female entrepreneurship: challenges and opportunities in fundraising - some shocking stats from Nora Bavey of Unconventional Ventures illustrating how far we still need to go to level the playing field, however there is movement in the right direction and it’s great to see VCs supporting this change. 📈 How a smart vibrator is changing the science of pleasure - Anna Lee of Lioness Health sharing the unknown and unstudied world of female sexuality and pleasure through orgasm data - incredibly important and  fascinating work! 🧠 Investing in Minds: Founder Mental Health and Investor Strategies - it was so refreshing for mental health being a topic and being discussed without any stigma by Malin Frithiofsson of DAYA and Tiffany Boswell founder of Meela. This is such an important topic to be spoken about, especially for founders.
