BBVA co-hosts the Energy Tech Summit, Europe’s #1 event in energy tech innovations and investment. The fifth edition of the event is set to take place in Bilbao, Spain on April 10-11, 2024. Climate technologies have advanced rapidly. However, there is a gap between technical readiness and commercial maturity. So far today, only 10 percent of climate technologies are commercially competitive, while a further 45 percent are commercially available but will require further cost reductions through innovation and scale-up to become competitive. 🌱🚀 Exciting Insights into the Nordic Cleantech Investment Landscape! 🌟 Last year, Net Zero Ventures joined Cleantech Scandinavia to strengthen our presence in this Northern European ecosystem, ensuring we stay close to the latest trends and most promising scale-up opportunities in #climatech companies in the region. Cleantech for Nordics, a partnership between Cleantech Scandinavia and Breakthrough Energy, has recently released its quarterly brief, providing a comprehensive analysis of 2023. Here are some key highlights: ✍️ In 2023, cleantech investments in the #Nordics hit a record-breaking 6,120 million EUR across 390 deals 📈, driven by key players like Northvolt and H2 Green Steel, which collectively accounted for over half of the total investments. ✍️ Despite increased deal activity, particularly in early-stage ventures, several sectors experienced a decline in funding compared to previous years, characterized by a mix of mega and smaller deals. ✍️ Sweden continued to lead in investment activity among its Nordic counterparts, capturing half of all deals and three quarters of the total invested amounts, and stands out as an outlier in the broader European investment landscape which has remained stagnant. ✍️ While the cleantech landscape shows positive growth, there is a clear need for more capital to scale solutions, possibly requiring alternative financing beyond venture capital. The bankruptcy of the two Swedish scale-ups, Volta and Cake, despite significant funding and proven technologies, highlighting this necessity.
