Did you know only 45% of students from low-income households who graduate from high school enroll in college, compared to 72% of their peers from higher-income households? And while Colorado is one of the five most educated states in the country, we’re in the bottom five at helping Colorado students graduate high school and get into college. Minds Matter Colorado (www.mindsmatterco.org) is on a mission to prove that it’s access, not ability, that limits college choice for many qualified students. So we connect high-performing students from low-income households with the relationships and resources they need to expand their post-secondary educational horizons. Our approach combines three years of mentorship with committed volunteers (like me!), weekly college-prep instruction, and access to summer programs at colleges across the country. As a result, 100 percent of our graduates complete high school on time and are accepted to four-year colleges and universities with scholarships. If you'd like to support Minds Matter, consider donating through the link below for #GivingTuesday. All donations go to ensuring my mentees and students like them receive the funding needed for things like summer program tuition, college application fees, SAT / ACT test prep, and more! https://lnkd.in/gGk7w_5z

This is Part 3 of tracing the journey of “Breathing the Mission into the Fundraising Event to Maximize Funds Raised” using the example of a recent event of one of our clients Academy Prep (please review previous posts). Let’s speak about that actual Mission Moment or Impact moment during the program. At Auction Horizon, we find that the fundraising is most effective when the Live Auction is done before the Bid from the Heart (or Paddle Raise or Fund-the-Mission – that giving moment with many names 😊) In between these two fundraising components, is the most emotional peak…that impactful moment where the Mission burns brightest….where it whispers to each guest and moves hearts, resulting in raised hands. As many of you know, this moment of impact is either a video, a live testimonial, or a combination of both. Academy Prep makes use of a powerful and emotion evoking video at this pivotal time of the fundraising agenda. The production of this video is of a very high standard. It is professional and intentional. It is an investment that shows much return. Here it is! Watch it and see the Mission in action. Hear what the donors and guests are hearing. “The money you give makes a difference. This is working. This is changing lives. You can trust us with your dollars.” Join us tomorrow for the final part of this story as we see the grand result of the intentional messaging during the event program….the money being raised. https://lnkd.in/g2_zHGiJ

The Forum on Education Abroad did a case study on the Future Nobel Laureates Program. Check it out! My favorite takeaway was "Even experienced professionals and organizations need to update and re-evaluate their policies from time to time (5.1.2). Having strong, clear policies in place is a foundation for strong relationships and clear expectations between partner organizations and between program faculty/staff and program participants." Also, applications are now open for this awesome international scholarship! (see post below)
As the Future Nobel Laureates Scholarship Program enters its fourth year, The Forum on Education Abroad and EF Study Abroad developed a case study on the impact of an education abroad program designed and implemented based on guidance from the Standards of Good Practice for Education Abroad. We hope this study examining our experiences so far can be a helpful resource to colleagues across our community seeking to implement the Standards of Good Practice in their own education abroad programming: https://lnkd.in/exQmMzyW #EFStudyAbroad #studyabroad #internationaleducation #educationabroad

It's both an honor and a challenge to be asked to serve as the President of the National Fire Heritage Center's Board of Directors. When you consider the challenge that our founding members accepted to establish archives that preserve the vast history of America's diverse fire services and disciplines, we have a great task ahead of us, building on the foundation they have laid. With thousands of donated documents to be scanned and more waiting to be shipped to us, we are stepping up our efforts to receive more items in digital form so you can access them more quickly. To help us make the best decisions, your information could be most valuable. When you search online for fire history information, what is most important to you? What topics do you want to find? What format is most helpful? You could help us reach our goal to get what we have digitized as quickly as possible by making a tax-deductible donation of any amount through our new website, fireheritageusa.org. If you have had a good experience with getting documents digitized, please share it with us. We want to make every hour and dollar donated to reach our goal give you the best return! Your input is very valuable to us.
