In recent years, I have taken steps to be more selective about which projects I work on. Some of the parameters that guided me were; - Do I believe in what the client is trying to do? - Is it something I can align with? - Does it bring value to people? - Would I be proud to say I worked on it? These inquiries lead to fewer projects but more joy. I have spent the majority of my professional career in the advertising space. Over the years, I have taken on many roles, from designer to art director and creative director. I have made many decisions that I disagreed with but was implored to do so. I cringe now that I reflect on them. In 2020, I decided that I was going to go out on my own. It was a difficult one. It was during COVID-19, and many companies in the creative space were either closing shop or downsizing their teams. Some of my peers thought my decision was career suicide. I was leaving a secure job for an ideal. An ideal that I believe was possible. I was prepared. I understood what I wanted to do in the creative space, and knew I couldn't accomplish that by working for someone else. That freedom to choose, to say no is powerful, and it is more difficult when you are not the ultimate decision maker. That choice has paid off. Here is a sample of projects that met 'My' standard. As you start 2024, I implore you to do work that you can be proud of. Find clients and opportunities that are aligned with your values and learn how to say no. #gooddesign #advertising #sculpture #interiordesign #claytonrhule

I've been on quite the creative rollercoaster lately, thanks to the Under 25 Universe! From whipping up posters and Instagram posts to diving into mood boards, websites, and even re-creating album covers for some super talented artists, it has allowed me to explore diverse creative avenues. And guess what? I've had the absolute pleasure of completing tasks for brands like Coca-Cola, Make My Trip, Yardley London, and Titan Sonata. I've been getting tons of messages from people in the Under 25 community, all curious about what I've been cooking up. Well, guess what? I've put together a little showcase of all the cool stuff I've been working on over the past month. I've shared my Creative Portfolio along with this post! But before you rush off to start your own creative ventures, here are a few bits of wisdom I've picked up along the way: ✅ Speak the Brand's Language: Every brand has its own vibe, its own style. Take the time to soak it in and really understand what makes them tick. Oh, and those reference photos? They're like gold dust. Pay attention! ✅ Dive Deep into the Brief: Don't just skim it, really dive into that brief. Trust me, it's where the magic happens. Understanding exactly what the brand wants is the first step to knocking their socks off. ✅ Know Your Crowd: Design isn't just about making things look pretty (although that's definitely part of it). It's about speaking to your audience. So, get to know them. ✅ Get Your Experiment On: Don't be afraid to mix things up. Try new techniques, play with different designs. You never know what kind of magic you might stumble upon. #Design #Creativity #PortfolioShowcase #GraphicDesign

Top Graphic Design Voice | Creative leader | Design Mentor | Blogger | Mental Health Advocate. I spent the last two decades helping businesses grow. Now I help designers thrive.
What I wish I'd known as a young designer! Sitting around, waiting for someone to discover your creative talents is a futile exercise. Your abilities are yours to nurture and showcase to the world. 🌐📣 Waiting for validation stifles growth and limits opportunities. 💯 Rick Owens' words may sound harsh, but they ring true: in the creative process, action precedes clarity. Whether you're finding your style or seeking recognition, it's all about taking initiative. By actively doing and creating, you gain insights, refine your skills, and clarify your vision over time. Don't wait for the spotlight to find you—step into it. Do you agree? Disagree? What lessons do you wish you had learned earlier in your career? #CreativeJourney #DesignCommunity #CreativeProfessionals #CreativeCommunity #CareerAdvise

The first designer I hired for my creative marketing agency left without notice, taking our work to another agency. I had just opened my creative marketing agency and was excited about the possibilities. I hired experienced graphic designerto help manage the workload. After spending countless hours training him day and night, I was devastated to find out that he had left without even a resignation email or serving a notice period. One day, my close client informed that he had joined another agency and taken our work with him. I was heartbroken because I had trusted him and invested so much time in his development, hoping he would be a key member of my team. This tough experience taught me some invaluable lessons about team building. 1️⃣ Trust is Key Finding trustworthy team members is crucial. It’s difficult to gauge trustworthiness immediately, but hiring from your network or based on personal referrals can make a big difference. 2️⃣ Shared Vision Matters That person left for a higher salary, but if he had understand our vision and ambition, he could’ve grown with the agency and potentially reached at good position. 3️⃣ Complementary Skills are Essential Don’t just hire people who do exactly what you do. Early hires should bring unique skills to the table, complementing your strengths and filling gaps in your team. This approach has helped me build a team of 20+ at Bannstudio that works seamlessly together. Use these serious learning’s to secure your first few hires and build a strong foundation for your business. Have you ever been let down by a team member? Share your story in the comments.
