Vishyisms Recently I happened to read about a thought provoking concept called the ‘Red Car Theory’ The ‘Red Car Theory’ explains that we must actively look for opportunities in life otherwise they won’t come to us. It revolves around the idea that opportunities are like red cars. They’re all around us, but we usually overlook them. Leadership in action is for leaders to be able to seize all the opportunities as they come your way or they will pass by unnoticed like all the red cars that pass by every day, but you don’t really see. As I watched this little child I realised we are not too young to lead! True leadership is all about teaching, problem-solving, and resilience. A powerful tale of a team becoming One: The Boys in the Boat. I read this book several years ago and I was excited to see the movie during some down time over the holidays. What I love about this story is the vision of the leader and the focus on a single goal, orchestrating the raw talent of a team for the best outcome. There are elements of risk, trust and belief in the possible. And letting go of self-focus to achieve a team win. The crew ultimately has to operate as a single machine, trusting in the coxswain who is the only member of the crew with a view of the other teams. The coxswain is executing on the strategy of the leader, overcoming unplanned obstacles toward the goal. I see this orchestration of talent in my current executive leaders, understanding the skills of each team member and adjusting positions in the "boat" toward the best outcome, providing direction to the team leads but also trusting in their judgement to execute. When I first read this book, I also used the lessons as an example to help motivate various business units who were operating independently to adopt a common practice. If you are in the midst of transformation or striving to achieve an almost unimaginable goal, I recommend the movie, and even more, the book. #transformation #leadership #entrepreneurship #trust #risk #belief
