Oracle introduced Oracle Database Vault to ensure that administrative users do not have access to sensitive data. Marketed with the tagline, “Does your DBA know your financial results before your CFO?” Oracle Database Vault enforces separation of duties and stringent access controls, effectively mitigating insider threats. While MongoDB does not offer similar built-in capabilities, modern practices using service accounts and application IDs in microservices help address these security concerns. In today's environment, regular application users or data owners typically do not manage sensitive data directly. Achieving the security levels provided by Oracle Database Vault requires managing delegated administration with the principle of least privilege and closely monitoring all data access to ensure adherence to the need-to-know principle. For platforms like Confluent and MongoDB, integrating robust data governance and security policies within the realm of Identity Governance and Administration (IGA) is essential. This approach helps maintain security best practices by managing delegated administration, enforcing least privilege access, and comprehensively monitoring data access to protect sensitive information.
