AJ100 Award Winning Part 1 Architectural Assistant and Sustainability Consultant pushing for regenerative systems change in the built environment
*Chetwoods Materials Monday* This week, we are spotlighting Vestre, a Norwegian furniture manufacturer who are creating more sustainable urban solutions. Vestre is addressing sustainability through multiple aspects of their manufacturing process - from transport, to material selection, to the factory facility itself. Vestre prioritise lower embodied carbon materials, such as Nordic steel, which Vestre say has a 20% reduction in carbon emissions compared to steel from other countries. Additionally, Vestre use Hydro CIRCAL aluminium which guarantees a minimum of 75% recycled content; and exclusively use FSC and PEFC certified, locally grown timber. Vestre is also actively working towards zero-emission transport, and apparently, they have influenced their whole value chain to make swaps to fossil fuel-free transport options. Their factory, The Plus by BIG, is recognised as the ‘world’s most sustainable furniture factory’. Constructed from engineered timber, and nestled within a forest, the factory incorporates playful colours that serve as wayfinding tools. The surrounding area is kept completely open to the public, who are even encourage to walk onto the roof of the factory itself – a tribute to Norway’s traditional ‘right to roam’ ethos. To find out more about Vestre’s products, processes, and facilities, visit their website: https://lnkd.in/e9uXbYfe Welcome to #chetwoodsmaterialsmonday where we share the newest more sustainable materials, and discuss news and current events related to sustainable and regenerative material selection. #sustainableconstruction #sustainablearchitecture #embodiedcarbon #sustainablefurniture #theplus #climatecrisis #globalwarming #climateaction

Sustainability is a journey and it’s absolutely integral to everything we do at Alexandra Llewellyn. The important thing for me is that the business continues to question, continues to educate and ensure that everything we are doing is as informed as possible. https://lnkd.in/e3p4hqEN
As we are celebrating the Earth Day, we would like to talk about our sustainability which is incredibly important to Alexandra and her team. All of the veneers and woods used in our marquetry products and boxes are sustainable, with many, including characterful London Oak, sourced locally from within Europe. Thanks to our close relationships with our suppliers, we can trace each piece of wood back to its original source – a numbered tree. We continue to find new ways to directly benefit the local communities from which our materials originate. #alexandrallewellyn #backgammon #backgammonlovers #earthday

Happy Earth Day! 🌱 Did you know that GRAM is the world's first LEED® Gold certified art museum?USGBC Central Coast Green Building Council Here are 5 ways we keep our operations environmentally friendly. 🌧️ Rainwater is collected from our roof to water our plants and flush our toilets, saving nearly 250,000 gallons of city treated water per year. ♻️ 75% of our waste is diverted from landfills by sorting recyclable and compostable materials (approximately 20 yards per month). 🧱 GRAM was constructed from recycled materials. The drywall was made from 98% recycled Synthetic Gypsum, while the carpet was made from recycled pop bottles. ☀️ 70% of the museum uses natural light, featuring UV-treated glass windows that result in energy savings all year long. 🌳 GRAM's white roof helps reduce the amount of heat absorbed by the building, plus our 8,100 square feet of courtyard and garden space lower the "heat island" effect caused by paved surfaces. These are just a few of the ways GRAM seeks to create an earth friendly and art friendly environment in downtown Grand Rapids. #earthday #grandrapidsartmuseum
