#AWARE will develop a solution that will enable the reception and processing of Galileo Emergency Warning Satellite Service (Galileo EWSS) messages, which will then be integrated within fixed devices such as display panels, speakers, and long-range acoustic devices (LRAD). But what is #GalileoEWSS and how does it work? The Emergency Warning Satellite Service (EWSS) aims to alert people in case of threatening hazards with the use of a constellation of medium earth orbit satellites. This service would exploit the advantage of the Galileo infrastructure to offer a satellite channel to national civil protection authorities- enabling them to send alerts to the population in the case of a looming disaster. STELLAR- a project managed by the Directorate General for Defence Industry and Space (DEFIS) of the #EuropeanCommission- has carried out demonstrations of the capabilities of Galileo EWSS to broadcast alert messages that can be received on mobile phones- even when telecommunications networks are disrupted or down. Space Data Association announces EU SST Space Surveillance and Tracking winner of T.S. Kelso Award The European Union Space Surveillance and Tracking Partnership (EU SST) has been announced as the recipient of the Space Data Association’s T.S. Kelso Award, presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to space flight safety. The EU SST Partnership relies on the SSA capabilities of 15 Member States1 of the European Union to provide space safety services, with the EU Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) acting as Front Desk.
