This is why the Spanish Ministry of Defence (MoD) is upgrading its satellite communications capabilities. SDA is pleased to announce the completed awards for Tranche 2 Transport Layer- Alpha variant. These include two OTA prototype agreements with a total value of approximately $1.3 billion to Northrop Grumman Space Systems and York Space Systems LLC to build and operate the Tranche 2 Transport Layer (T2TL) - Alpha variant constellation, consisting of 100 #satellites. The T2TL- Alpha constellation will provide global communications access and deliver persistent, regional, and encrypted connectivity to support missions like beyond-line-of-sight targeting and missile warning and missile tracking of advance missile threats as part of the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture. In this context, military force structures will adopt a hybrid approach, incorporating both manned units of high-value and adaptable unmanned platforms. The European Defence Agency has brought together two #EU Member States to develop a #satellite demonstrator that can manoeuvre from Low Earth Orbit (#LEO) to Very Low Earth Orbit (#VLEO) – and back again. The €10 million project – called LEO2VLEO: Military Crisis-Response Satellite Constellation – with the Netherlands and Austria, will design, develop, launch and operate a constellation of between two and four satellites. It aims for a space launch in two years time.
