This conference will address today's most important issues in competition law, economics and policy, and will be divided into panels on "Litigation in EU courts", "Competition law and litigation", "Merger control: recent developments and challenges" and "Economic approach to competition law". The International Conference on Competition Law and Policy 2024, organised by VdA, ISEG and OPCR, is the largest and most prominent event dedicated to competition law and policy held annually in Portugal. Pleasure to record a conversation with one of the leading voices in the area of EU competition law & policy – the Prosecutor General of the Belgian Competition Authority, a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, an author of many impactful publications and books – Damien Gerard. We have started by examining the main specificities of the institutional settings of the Belgian Competition Authority, looking at other EU NCAs with similar and different architecture & examining pros and cons of different models. We then moved to the analysis of possible formats of co-existence of NCAs & governments. We then looked at the enforcement priorities of and some latest investigations by the Belgian Competition Authority. On 10 November 2023 Opatija hosted the international scientific conference "Companies at a Crossroad - A Way Forward". The Conference was convened by the Department of Corporate and Financial Law of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and the Jean Monnet Inter-university Centre of Excellence Opatija. It was sponsored by the Department of Social Sciences of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The Conference gathered over 80 experts from across the country and abroad. The discussions and the conclusions of the Conference indicated the importance of dynamic social changes, the increasing digitization and the issue of economy's sustainability. The two thematic blocks of discussions were followed by a round table with participants from the academia and the legal practice, tackling together the issues attached to the purpose of the company.

Here is the updated version of my paper on the weight given to innovation by EU courts in competition law cases. Shareholders’ Written Resolution: Flexibility or Burden to Private Companies by Lazzu Shrestha Unlike public companies, private companies in Nepal are provided with the flexibility of convening general meetings physically or virtually. Shareholders of a private company can make corporate decisions in form of a written resolution with a special majority requirement . In this article, the author, Ms. Lazzu Shrestha, analyses whether this provision adequately addresses the issues pertaining to adopting a written resolution including- its circulation, proxy signing and possible oppression of minority shareholders and draws a comparison with the prevalent laws of the United Kingdom. She further suggests how Nepali laws, despite its shortcomings, allows flexibility to private companies for decision making, and recommends reforms to the prevailing laws of Nepal.
