Riverboat cruising is growing in popularity across the globe, but it’s also important to note the complexity of the medical care that is often associated with such trips. With the recent passage of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023, riverboat travel is now specifically exempt from Title 46 of the US Code of Regulations when it comes to medical care. This affects the type of medical personnel that riverboats can have onboard and calls into question the level of service these vessels will have available in the event of injury or illness. Read our latest article in Journal of Emergency Medical Services, where our medical team addresses the issue with a new healthcare risk reduction tool that can be used by onboard Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel and crew to treat the health concerns which may affect elderly travelers and all others on board and serve as a foundation for the provision of quality medical care. ✍️ Dr. Bill Heymann, Dr. Karl Bergsten MD, Dr. Tanya Engelbrecht & Bec Ware #rivercruise #cruiseindustry #maritimeindustry

As the NSW Government's Road Safety Forum approaches, Road Trauma Support Group NSW is championing a key initiative: comprehensive Road Fatality Reporting. We propose a system for transparent, nationally shared data on road deaths, aligning with the standards of workplace and aviation safety reporting. This move towards in-depth analysis and public accountability is crucial for devising more effective road safety strategies and ensuring dedicated funding. Chris Minns Jo Haylen Hon. Sharing another troublesome piece of data on Endotracheal Intubation and complication rates. This is why we are so passionate about creating the next innovation in airway management and disrupting the industry for the better. “Enodtracheal Intubation (ETI) has long been considered the gold-standard for airway management. Although this is true for highly controlled environments, prehospital airway management success rates vary considerably and high rates of complications have been attributed to multiple factors.” - Prehospital Airway Management: A Systematic Review, Prehospital Emergency Care Follow us on our journey. Air Ambulance transfers to Sri Lanka to be approved within two hours Arrangements have been made where permits to operate air ambulance flights to Sri Lanka in medical emergencies will be granted within a period of two hours. This is part of the government's initiatives to expedite provision of treatment abroad in emergency cases where such medical attention is deemed necessary. This arrangement was initially discussed with the Sri Lankan government during Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Mohamed Ameen's visit to the country in late January. Until now, a duration of 6 to 24 hours was needed for the provision of permits from Sri Lanka for the transfer of patients in medical emergency cases. This time frame has now been cut down to just 2 hours under these recent deliberations. President's Office said today that the Government of Sri Lanka is currently working on implementing this change at the Bandaranaike International Airport. The Office asserted that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu highly prioritizes the provision of proper medical services to Maldivians within the country and abroad. Introduction and expansion of air ambulance services is among the presidential pledges of President Dr Muizzu. The government has earlier said that the service will be launched on March 1. The President's Office further said that the government intends to arrange medical services for citizens from places like Dubai and Thailand in addition to neighbouring countries. It is amongst the government's policies to establish air ambulance services to such countries as well in the near future. Source: edition. mv
