I would like to wish all seafarers a happy and safe 'Day of the Seafarer'. Today we recognize the enormous contributions you make to our way of life. Through the dangers of geopolitics and piracy, you continue to feed, energize, and drive world trade as only 'key workers' can. Those who have sailed understand the unique stresses you face and the skills needed to do a safe and professional job. My #safetytipsatsea: If you are unsure - about anything - ask for help. Ask your crew mates, and ask your team ashore. A simple question can save lives.

Visibility is critical. There is so much more we can be doing to improve the safety and welfare of our seafarers and raising awareness of the challenges they face is needed to collaboratively reach solutions. #safety #welfare #crew #seafarers
"I am thrilled that the IMO is making the link between safety and seafarers very visible this year and spotlighting the efforts that our crew take to keep our oceans protected, cargo safe and trade flowing," says Intent Communications CEO Namrata Nadkarni in SAFETY4SEA. She points out that it is high time that we invest in the safety of our seafarers and make them feel valued. This might come in the form of — 💫 user-friendly training 💫 mental health support 💫 proper insurance 💫 equipment-specific training ... and most importantly, a culture where people are able to speak freely about problems they identify or ways to make life at sea better! We must create a psychologically safe work-space so that our seafarers can not just thrive but have a say in our sector. As we celebrate the Day of the Seafarer, it’s important to highlight the crucial role that seafarers play in our global economy and everyday lives. These brave men and women face unique challenges and risks as they navigate the world’s oceans. Here are our tips to help seafarers stay safe and healthy at sea: 1. Training and Certification: Proper training and certification are the foundation of safety at sea. Ensure you’re equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform your duties safely. 2. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear the appropriate PPE for your role. This could include helmets, safety shoes, gloves, high-visibility clothing, and life jackets. 3. Safe Lifting Techniques: Protect your back by using safe lifting techniques. Always bend your knees and keep your back straight when lifting heavy objects. 4. Fall Prevention: Slips, trips, and falls are common accidents on ships. Always be aware of your surroundings and keep walkways clear of hazards. 5. Fire Safety: Know the location of fire extinguishers and how to use them. Regularly participate in fire drills and know your role in the event of a fire. 6. Substance-Free Workplace: Maintain a drug- and alcohol-free workplace to ensure the safety of all crew members. 7. Risk Assessment: Before starting any task, calculate the risk involved. Identify and mitigate potential risks before they become problems. #DayoftheSeafarer #SafetyTipsAtSea
