Yesterday concluded the 2024 #NAFEMS conference in Louisville. It was my first time attending the conference and I really enjoyed meeting folks from both academia and industry. I had the pleasure of chatting a bit with Prof Tony Petrella from Colorado School of #Mines who is offering a NAFEMS recognized simulation certificate that i know our team is interested in taking. Or chatting with Prof Jami Shah from Ohio State after the future of #AI in simulation panel discussion and the prospefts of his up coming books on simulation that I am looking forward to reading. It was no surprise that discussion around #AI was the buzz word in most conversations. These conversations was certainly interesting to participate in after having finished my masters to see how thought out the application of #AI was in the field. Without going into too much detail, one thing was clear to me; most are trying to drive a Ferrari that is DL models when people could have gone to work in a much cheaper car thats less flashy. There was a lot to learn from my #OMSCS masters but one key aspect was to select the right tool for the job. Understanding the strength and weaknesses of each AI model. As the No Free Lunch Theorem states, there is no such thing as a perfect model that solves it all.
