This week I had the privilege of participating in the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, where I witnessed first hand the exciting advancements in the state's energy transition. Alaska, the largest state in the U.S.(2.5 times the size of Texas!), is home to over 200 native tribes, vast mineral resources, and the world's third largest cargo port in Anchorage. The state's energy transition is gaining momentum with groundbreaking legislation. The "Hole Bill" (HB50) incentivizes carbon capture, leveraging Alaska's vast sequestration capacity. The "Tree Bill" (HB49) creates carbon credits for forest lands, another Alaska advantage. These bills not only pave the way for a cleaner energy future but also create jobs and enhance energy security. By utilizing the method of exploratory process tracing, we show how the coalition intervened to shape policymaking on offshore wind development. Our research shows that this success is due to the Maine coalition's ability to draw on cross-scale political resources, undertake multi-pronged campaigns to challenge the beneficiaries of the status quo, and to develop negotiated policy solutions acceptable to key constituencies. A segment called “Red and Green” aired as part of the CBS News 60 Minutes December 10th episode. It featured the State of Wyoming’s Governor and his willingness to invite new ideas, new technology to the state to address clean energy initiatives—one of those initiatives being the unconventional idea to bring data centers to the oilfield! During the “Red and Green” segment, Cully Cavness from Crusoe Energy Systems is interviewed and discusses the “power generation systems” used by his company to power data centers. These data centers are powered by more than 20 million cubic feet of gas per day that otherwise would have been flared and wasted. From an environmental assessment perspective, Cully quantified the emissions avoidance equivalent to taking hundreds of thousands of cars off the road annually. The “power generation systems” referred to are none other than INNIO's Waukesha VHP9504GSI Series Five Enginators – a real world example of how Waukesha is helping build a powerful future! As the largest landowner in the country — about 28% of the 2.27 billion acres in the United States — the public sector is a crucial partner in our collective efforts towards emissions reduction and sustainability. Federal, state, and local governments are developing decarbonization policies and initiatives that resonate with the evolving energy landscape, all while driving economic growth and job creation in new industries like renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean technologies.

Not sure if you all saw this on 60 Minutes last night. 60 MINUTES - NEWSMAKERS  Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon pursues green, carbon-negative agenda in one of the nation's reddest states. Wyoming is driving carbon-negative initiatives and doing great things to advance renewable energy projects while balancing the current Coal and Oil and Gas activities. For example, they are working with Crusoe and other O&G companies on capturing excess flare gas that adds to greenhouse gas emissions and using it to energize data centers while reducing GHG emissions. Wyoming is also proposing to build the largest wind farm in the US that will send electricity to California and other states.
