🌍 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞: 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧- Papa Kysma SYLLA Recently, I had the privilege of connecting with Papa Kysma SYLLA, a leading light in the humanitarian sector with over 30 years of experience, to capture insights from his remarkable journey. Our conversation delved into the significant shifts in humanitarian aid, memorable experiences, overcoming challenges, and navigating the complexities of working in conflict zones. One piece of advice from Papa resonated deeply with me: prioritize people. In a world where humanitarian interventions can sometimes feel disjointed and detached from the communities we aim to serve, Papa's wisdom echoes the importance of listening to the voices of affected populations, designing interventions that are sensitive to their social and cultural contexts. I am sharing a snippet of wisdom from Papa Kysma with fellow aspiring humanitarian workers and anyone passionate about shaping the future of humanitarian work. Papa shared a strong message that- "Being a humanitarian worker, I have witnessed firsthand how haphazard humanitarian interventions can become when designed without input from the affected communities. To make our interventions truly impactful, we must prioritize people. We must listen, observe, and understand the needs of those we seek to assist." #HumanitarianWork #PrioritizingPeople #Inspiration

Refugees, like any other individuals, have diverse dreams and aspirations. While it's difficult to generalize, many refugees dream of becoming humanitarians themselves. Their experiences of displacement, loss, and hardship often foster a deep empathy and desire to help others who are facing similar challenges. Here are a few ways refugees may envision themselves as humanitarians: 1. Advocate and Activist: Many refugees aspire to become advocates and activists, using their own stories and experiences to raise awareness about the plight of refugees worldwide. They may work to change policies, challenge stereotypes, and fight for the rights of displaced populations. 2. Humanitarian Aid Worker: Some refugees dream of becoming humanitarian aid workers, providing assistance and support to fellow refugees and displaced communities. They may envision themselves working for international organizations, NGOs, or local initiatives, delivering essential services such as food, water, healthcare, and shelter. 3. Educator and Mentor: Education is often disrupted for refugees, so some individuals may aspire to become teachers or mentors. They may dream of establishing schools or educational programs in refugee camps or host communities, empowering displaced children and adults through knowledge and skills development. 4. Community Builder: Refugees often have a strong sense of community and the importance of social cohesion. As a result, they may envision themselves as community builders, working to strengthen social connections, foster integration, and provide platforms for refugees to support and help each other. 5. Psychosocial Support Provider: Having experienced trauma and displacement themselves, some refugees dream of becoming counselors, psychologists, or social workers. They aspire to provide mental health support, guidance, and healing to individuals and communities affected by conflict and displacement. It's important to remember that these dreams may vary from person to person, depending on their interests, skills, and personal experiences. Refugees, like anyone else, have diverse aspirations and talents, and their dreams of becoming humanitarians reflect their resilience, compassion, and desire to make a positive impact in the world.

#WorldHumanitarianDay is a day dedicated to celebrating the spirit of compassion and kindness towards our fellow human beings. It's a reminder that we all have the power to make a positive impact and save lives. We may donate to a humanitarian organization: Consider supporting organizations that work tirelessly to provide aid, medical assistance, and relief to those in need. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in someone's life. I hope one day that I get an opportunity to volunteer my time: Reach out to local charities or community centers and offer my skills and time to help those less fortunate. Whether it's serving meals at a shelter, tutoring children, or assisting the elderly, the presence and support can bring hope and happiness to those who need it most. We can Spread awareness: Use the power of our voice and social media to raise awareness about humanitarian issues. Share our and others’ stories, facts, and resources to educate others about the challenges faced by vulnerable communities worldwide. Together, we can inspire others to take action and create a more compassionate world. We can Practice random acts of kindness: Small acts of kindness can have a profound impact on someone's day. Whether it's offering a helping hand to a stranger, listening to someone in need, or simply spreading positivity, let's make an effort to be kinder and more empathetic towards others. Remember, saving lives and being kind doesn't require grand gestures. It starts with the willingness to make a difference, no matter how small. Let's come together on this World Humanitarian Day and show the world the power of compassion. 🤝💙 #WorldHumanitarianDay #SavingLives #BeKind
