One more tips for my fellow job seekers, it's fine to job hopping BUT do not make it too frequent. Loyalty is secondary in today's generation - it's a debatable topic, but let's save it for another post. Anyhow, here are two major triggering points for a recruiter when they review your profile: (Disclaimer: This is my personal POV, other recruiters might have different views). 🔴 Frequent change of jobs at different companies within a year (unless you were retrenched etc., then it's a different story) 🔴 The tenure for each job is between 3-7 months - it gives the impression that you're not confirmed and/or was asked to leave Usually if I encounter these kinds of profiles, I will probe further. I myself is a job hopper but not on purpose. My short tenure was due to contractual role, and there was once I got laid off due to redundancy. As long as you're able to justify your reasons, you've nothing to scared of to change job. 😉

“No one will want to hire you.” I got laid off a few years ago and was urgently looking for a job. So I met up with my headhunter in their fancy office (I took this picture while waiting…) And this was the key message she told me. While she didn’t say it in those exact words, here are some things she actually did say: ❌ “Based on your current salary, no one can afford you. Be ready for a pay cut.” ❌ “Forget promotions, you’re too senior. The most you can expect is a parallel position.” ❌ “There are too many of you FMCG leaders out there.” ❌ “The job market is tough. There are very few roles available.” And my personal favourite: ❌ “You’re a dinosaur.” (aka non-digital native) 🦖 So as you can imagine, this didn’t help with my already flagging confidence! (I wanted to jump out the window but it was sealed tight. 😆) But good thing that I didn’t listen to this doomsday prophesy. Instead, I went to my career coach who helped me look at it from a completely different angle: ✅ “You have so much value to offer. Your job is to figure out what it is.” ✅ “Don’t wait for job openings to fall on your lap. Create opportunities for yourself.” ✅ “Don’t think of it as a job interview. Think of it as a pitch.” ✅ “Don’t settle for anything less than you deserve.” And my personal favourite: ✅ “If you are the best solution to someone’s problem, there will always be money.” 🤑 And true enough, I was able to find a new job in 2 months. Plus a promotion. Plus a salary increase. So to anyone out there who’s feeling demotivated by their job hunt, don’t let the naysayers get you down. You are worth it to someone somewhere. I know that feeling! I went through different sites to hunt for jobs and apply for other roles in various industries and organisations. After weeks or months of applying, a company finally sends you an interview for the first stage. After spending hours preparing for the interview and overcoming the fear, the gun is shot. I have been seeing posts about people saying, “No one wants to work any more these days." Yet, can we say people don’t want to work when employers want to offer peanuts to employees—probably a lesser salary than you’re earning—create a toxic workplace for employees, and want one person to carry out the jobs of five people? I think it isn’t very encouraging for young talents to say they’re unwilling to work when we should address why they don’t want to accept that job.
