It didn't take long to figure out we had a mindset problem after taking over Framingham lacrosse in 2020. Looking at the results, we turned a team struggling to win 3 or more games for 6+ seasons into a team with 3 straight postseason appearances. We are currently ranked #16 with an opportunity to host a playoff game - something Framingham hasn't done in 10 years. But my mentor Pete Bidstrup reminds me the less we focus on the result, the better we perform, the better the results (sweet irony!). Focus on being present - be aware that emotion is the enemy to performance - shift the focus from being the best to being the best version of yourself. Our entire team wears Coach Bidstrup's Human Reset bracelets - with a little button on it - no matter what is going on we can press the reset button and come back to the present moment. Detachment from the result is the superpower of elite teams... Yes, it is easier said than done! ... but in the end, it all comes down to our mentality... Have you ever wondered if BOXING DAY is a national holiday, named after my family? What is BOXING DAY? FIRST: Historically, the day after Xmas, servants of the wealthy had been given time off to visit their families. Employers would hand their servants a BOX to take home, containing gifts, bonuses, and sometimes leftover food. Cats everywhere rejoice today, their favorite holiday—a day of BOXES! SECOND: It was customary for tradespeople to collect Christmas BOXES of gifts and/or money as thanks for good service throughout the year. THIRD: Traced back to the Victorian Age, churches would set out BOXES for additional monetary donations on 12/26 One of my friends in the Washington DC area has often referred to me as, “Le Box”. My brother, Marc is referred to by some of his closest friends as ”Box”. In celebration of national Boxing Day, I'm starting a new tradition of giving to people in my network. College basketball bracket fun is coming up! We hope you will join us for our MDFF bracket pool! You'll be able to create your bracket on Sunday, March 17. We will send out more information about how to join the MDFF Pool next week – we are making a switch this year and using Big Tourney instead of CBS for bracket status tracking. We have a $5,000 matching gift from anonymous donors this year! This means that all of your donations will go even further to support Hoosier families navigating the challenges of living with a form of muscular dystrophy. Is there a cost? We have a suggested donation amount of $25 per bracket, but feel free to give what you are able. For our MD families, it's free :) Will there be prizes? Yes! First place will receive $250, second place will receive $100, and third place will receive $50. What if I know nothing about basketball? No worries. It's National Volunteers Week so here's a little story for you.... One of my voluntary roles is the dream job of being Team Manager for my youngest son's rugby team (Pentyrch RFC Under 8s - soon to be Under 9s) One of our coaches got some great raffle prizes for us (a kicking session with Jonny Wilkinson) to raise money for our first tour next year.... I knew Raffall was an online raffle platform as I'd bought tickets on there previously, so I started setting up the raffle but wasn't enjoying the experience, it was a bit clunky... I google'd something like 'Raffall alternatives' and came across Raffaly - a new alternative with ✅ cheaper fees (great for charities where every penny counts!) ✅ guest checkout (making it much easier to buy raffle tickets - higher conversion and sales) Unfortunately I hit some stumbling blocks and page errors. I was on a hard deadline to get the raffle live as I was going on holiday the next day, so I put it live on Raffall but I emailed my bugs and feedback to Raffaly. The founder Liam Walder emailed me back the next day, he'd fixed all the bugs I'd found and thanked me for letting him know....
