Dallas campus medical director and a national leader in CV research, Robert C. Stoler MD, FACC, FSCAI, is one of the lead authors on the JAMA Network March 9th article Paclitaxel-Coated Balloon vs Uncoated Balloon for Coronary In-Stent Restenosis. The article provides an overview of AGENT IDE, a multicenter randomized trial of 600 patients designed to evaluate paclitaxel-coated balloon as a treatment strategy for in-stent restenosis. Findings indicate that target lesion failure was significantly lower in the paclitaxel-coated balloon group. Read the key points. https://lnkd.in/exvdSb-B

📚 New Research Alert! 🚀 Check out this fascinating article: "Myopia progression following 0.01% atropine cessation in Australian children: Findings from the Western Australia - Atropine for the Treatment of Myopia (WA-ATOM) study" by SS Lee, VK Nilagiri, G Lingham, M Blaszkowska et al- Clin Exp Ophthalmol. 2024. 🔍 Background: The study aimed to investigate the rebound effect of myopia progression after cessation of 0.01% atropine compared to a placebo control. 🔬 Key Findings: During the 1-year wash-out phase, myopia progression was faster in the treatment group than in the control group. Over the 3-year study period, cumulative myopia progression was similar between the atropine and control groups. 💡 Clinical Translation: This study emphasizes: The need for prolonged atropine administration to avoid a rebound effect, even with lower concentrations. The possibility of resuming atropine treatment if abnormal axial length progression occurs after discontinuation. 📌 Take Home Message: Stay informed about the latest research in myopia management and ensure optimal treatment strategies for your patients! Exciting news! my paper is recently accepted in Geroscience. It delves into the world of cellular senescence in osteoarthritis, uncovering two senescence endotypes. Even more fascinating, we identified potential blood-biomarkers to fascilitate personalised treatment for OA patients! 🦴💡Read it here: https://rdcu.be/drCDn

Absolutely, Linda Griffith! It's truly astonishing how little we know about the science behind conditions like #endometriosis and #adenomyosis, which impact so many women. We can't accept this status quo any longer. It's high time for innovative therapies and diagnostics. Women have waited far too long. Thanks to leaders like you we are asking the harder questions to change this reality. Your Open Endoscopy Forum Gynecology Science and Technology Workshop this Friday, Sept. 22 is a great start: https://cgr.mit.edu/oef/ 💥Not so fun facts that fire me up: Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women. ⭐️ The estimated US economic burden is a staggering $78–119 billion annually. ⭐️ Women often wait 8 to 12 years for a diagnosis. ⭐️ Black women are 50% less likely to be diagnosed compared to white women. Adenomyosis affects 1 in 5 women. ⭐️ Rates are approximately 60% higher in black women compared to white women. ⭐️ While the economic burden lacks a reliable statistic, it's undoubtedly BIG. ⭐️ There are no approved medical guidelines or therapeutic treatments, with the "gold standard" being hysterectomy. We urgently need forums that encourage dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders, and MIT could be the catalyst for this change. Let's roll up our sleeves and make it happen! 💪🔬 #CollaborationMatters #WomensHealth
Astonishing - and astonishingly accurate - quote about adenomyosis, hot of the press today : "The lack of information about the nature and pathophysiology of adenomyosis and the paucity of a proper universal classification system has led to a near anarchy in the treatment of this disease." And this is why it is SO HARD to get pharma to take on endo and adeno. We need MIT to serve as a convener of all the stakeholders out there, to cut through this Gordian knot. I know Stephanie Sassman is listening to my agony on this - and to my proposed path to solutions! https://lnkd.in/ePM6N2Ca

I am very pleased to announce the publication of my latest research paper and would like to thank all co-authors for their valuable contributions. 🧬 In this work, we investigated the role of BMP9 on vascular homeostasis and endothelial cell identity. We show that BMP9 is required for the correct identity of liver endothelial cells and that its loss leads to dilated vascular vessels in multiple organs (liver, brain, kidney, lung). We have also demonstrated for the first time that BMP9 deletion is sufficient to induce arteriovenous shunting and malformations, reminiscent of what can be observed in HHT patients. Overall, we demonstrate that BMP9 plays a key role in the pathogenesis of HHT. ⬇️ if you want to know more, follow the link : https://lnkd.in/dESH4Aux Authors A Desroches-Castan, D Koca, H Liu, C Roelants, L Resmini, N Ricard, C Bouvard, N Chaumontel, P L Tharaux, E Tillet, C Battail, O Lenoir, S Bailly #endothelialcells #vasculardiseases #raredisease #HHT #PAH #ResearchPublication
