Great piece on the $600B question of missing/potential AI revenue. As with any speculative investment frenzy, a lot of money will be incinerated over the next 12-24 months. At the same time, there will also be some incredible companies built due to the dramatic decrease in GPU and computational costs. Feels there’s never been a platform shift where the picks and shovels have been so heavily subsidized - both on the R&D & COGS side of things - companies just have to be willing to find the gold & use the moment to own the end customers.

THE FAULT, DEAR BRUTUS, IS NOT IN OUR STARS, BUT IN OUR ATTRIBUTION LOGIC - I was watching the Apple WWDC videos on AdAttribution Kit, the new reincarnation of SKAN and came across this section which shows how little thought has gone into creating a robust attribution system for iOS even three years after iDFA deprecation (or that they simply don't care enough to make one). - Firstly, an impression can be made "eligible to be considered for re-engagement conversions" but there is no guarantee that it will only be served to relevant users as the concept of a suppression list doesn't exist anymore since SKAN was introduced. - The chart below shows how installs and re-engagements are classified differently depending on whether the user has the app installed. What this doesn't take into account is there there are three VERY DIFFERENT use cases: 1. New users who have to be intrigued and persuaded to install the app 2. Existing/lapsed users who need a bump or a reminder to get back into the app 3. Churned users who might be willing to re-install the app given the right incentive - All the above three use cases ideally require a different creative and precise targeting, neither of which are tenable with the current iOS system.
