💡 Free Report: Rise of the co-op games on Steam - https://lnkd.in/e3GrqPfj We're exploring the superior performance of co-op games on Steam. A lot of players found a social output through these games over Covid, boosting these games significantly. Since then, we've seen a period of normalization. However, 2024 has been a resurgence of co-op games, led by Palworld and Helldivers 2. We've also seen many other co-op indie games make it to the Steam top charts. #GameDev #GamesIndustry #VideoGames #Palworld

What options do Indie developers have when it comes to shipping their games? It seems like it would be a good idea to establish a business entity to release your game under, but if it’s a very small game is it advisable to just release it under your name? Of course steam comes to mind when I think of shipping a small game; what other platforms are available for indie devs to sell their games?

Do you know the difference between the two most common forms of multiplayer in video games? The first most common form is local multiplayer where each player is sitting in the same room playing on the same machine. This is local multiplayer where the game exist on the machine and the game world is updated on the local machine and each player sees the same world. The second most common form of is network multiplayer where if player 1 creates a game object it sends a command to the server and the server then interact with the other clients and tells them where to create the projectile that was shot by player one. to simply put it the game is played on the host machines and the client is used just to send and receives data and render new images based upon new changes. attached below is a image from the unreal 5 documentation showing the differences between local and network multiplayer

I commend all of those that have the courage to create or attempt to create video games. To put into perspective from last year’s data on NewZoo, 14,532 ( ~15,000) games were released in 2023 on Steam. Of these, 48 accounted for 90% of the playtime (0.33% of games). 1,400+ accounted for the remaining 10% meaning many games didn’t even get played or were played very little 😱 (9.63% of games). This truly reiterates the passion that is necessary in this industry, as well as the drive, in order to create games. Not everyone will create a successful game, let alone create a successful game on the first go-around. This is not to deter anyone from creating because we cannot have GREAT new games without creating. It’s just so much harder than many want to believe. Don’t give up on the first go-around and don’t expect that this will be your income maker out the gate. Cheers, Stephen Lenz #videogaming #gamedesign #data #perspective #reality Zwift clip for fun from a recent ride from me below! End of a climb with a 402 watt average over almost 11 minutes.

I don’t even know how to respond to this, I'm paraphrasing a bit to shorten it down and I haven't read the whole thing yet, but in the introductory part its claimed that: 1: The gaming industry in Sweden is well and thriving 2: They need more workers and are just clamoring for new employees. 3: that it’s a shame that it takes a few years to get an education? I’m sorry, what? As a student currently looking for an internship, where in the world are these employers screaming for new talent? Where is the incredible demand? Please tell me, because God knows I really don’t see it. Where do they get this data? Are they living in a different world than me? It sure seems like it, because I seriously do not understand, do they just not advertise their positions so that we can't find them? Do they expect that we know that they have a position for interns or juniors? Or maybe it's that they actually just want already experienced developers and are unwilling to invest in new talent? When in that case the comment about how long it takes to educate new talents is borderline deceptive. It doesn't matter how many thousands of people you educate if the market is only willing to hire experienced workers. I'm not actually writing this to complain however, I'm just completely bewildered, it feels like I'm being bamboozled! I literally don’t see any evidence of what they are claiming. It's like someone where to claim that, actually, pigs can fly and are doing it all over the place. Where? I don’t see it, I really don’t, what am I missing? Can you please tell me? And I mean that, very sincerely, if you know and can point me to this enormous demand for new developers, please point me to wherever this is! Am so confused, am I living in I different reality? Where is this incredible market for new talent?

Check out the yearly report of Serbian Games Association and read about trending topics in the gaming industry! Marija Vlajković, Nikola Dragić and I wrote an expert article on the legal implications of Sora. The OpenAI's new "text to video" tool will enable the creation of videos at a click, which could lead to mass production of synthetic content, including deepfakes. Open AI reiterated that it wants to put some safety guardrails in place before making it public, but Sora already brings advanced IP and data privacy issues. Read more about it on page 46!
When it comes to GAMES, this is what the previous year looked like! 😎 We are happy to see only a slight decrease in produced and published games!
