A member of our finance team was asking everyone if they would be in the office on Thursday. Today, he brought a breakfast bagel for everyone who said yes, putting them in brown paper bags with our names. Immediately, I was flooded with the incredible nostalgia of young school days. He mentioned he bought the wrong size bags but luckily the bagel still fit. The simplicity of a handwritten name on a brown paper bag created engagement, laughter, connection of people from all different spaces, life experiences and even just departments in our company. It took one person’s amazing thought, intention and action that changed the entire trajectory of what would have been just a typical Thursday. Why am I in People/HR? This is exactly it.
