Since 2010, stakeholders have been working hard on the goal to protect an additional two million acres in the Chesapeake by 2025. Using the latest data and technology, Chesapeake Conservancy’s geospatial analysts assessed land conservation progress. The good news is that the data shows that we’re largely on track to meet the 2025 goal, but the reality is that it’s time to move the goalpost. The world’s leading scientists are calling for dramatic increases in conservation efforts to conserve 30% of the Earth’s lands and waters by 2030, which President Biden responded to with an executive order for the United States. To achieve that goal here in the Chesapeake, we will need to increase the annual rate of conservation by 350%. It’s a massive but achievable undertaking and one that is paramount to the future sustainability of our watershed. #campaignfornature #30by30 #ForNature Chesapeake Bay Program
As off 2022, the Chesapeake Bay Program has met 82% of its protected lands outcome. This brings the total acres of protected lands in the watershed to 9.1 million! Protecting land from development is one of the best ways to safeguard the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its wildlife. It also provides parks and outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. #LandConservation #ChesapeakeBay #ClimateChange

Rhino Ark has officially handed over the newly constructed Bosto forest outpost to the Kenya Forest Service (KFS). This outpost is situated within the Itare Forest Station of the South Western Mau Forest Reserve. Joseph Kingori, who serves as the County Forest Coordinator in Bomet, received the outpost during a ceremony that brought together the local community, representatives from the Nyayo Tea Zone Development Corporation, and government officials, including the area chief and sub-chiefs. The construction of the Bosto outpost was made possible by Rhino Ark, with funding support from Biodiversity Challenge Funds. Bosto has been a notorious hotspot for illegal forest activities due to the absence of an outpost and forest rangers. The establishment of this outpost will now enable KFS to deploy a team of 5 rangers. These rangers will conduct regular patrols from this outpost, acting as a strong deterrent against illegal activities such as grazing, logging, and charcoal burning, thereby significantly enhancing the security of the forest in the area. Rhino Ark's strategic approach to forest protection involves providing essential infrastructure like this outpost. To date, Rhino Ark has successfully constructed four forest outposts along the South Western Mau Forest boundary, covering multiple counties, including Kericho, Bomet, Narok, and Nakuru. #RhinoArkOperations #ConservationEfforts #ForestSecurity #BostoOutpost #MauForest #CommunitySupport

📢It’s time to stand up for some of the UK’s oldest and most important trees. 🌳We’re proud to support our partner, the Woodland Trust, who create native woods and trees, restore irreplaceable ancient woodland, and protect our living legends – trees that have been standing tall for centuries. Right now, most ancient trees have no real legal protection in the UK and local communities nationwide are being forced to take extreme measures to save them. 🐿These living legends are pieces of history. They connect us to our heritage, provide essential habitat for wildlife, boost health and wellbeing and capture carbon. These national treasures deserve protection. The Woodland Trust wants to see: 🌳Legally protected heritage status for some of the UK’s most ancient and important trees 🌳Strong, consistent policy protection for old trees 🌳More support for land managers and farmers to care for ancient and veteran trees So far, more than 50,000 people have signed the Woodland Trust’s petition to urge governments to protect these living legends. Join us in adding your voice to its petition today: Protect our Living Legends: Sign our Petition - Woodland Trust #LivingLegends #AncientWoodland #AncientTrees #VeteranTrees #NatureRecovery Asendia The Woodland Trust https://lnkd.in/en7ae52y
