Thoughts from “Masters of the Air,” now onto Episode 4: First, my opinion is that this series is brilliant. Exceptionally well-made. From my US Air Force perspective, as a been-deployed vet, I have an ever deeper appreciation for it. The series makes the levels of risk taken on by the 100th Bomb Group out of England in 1943 exceptionally, transparently clear. It is vividly depicted. Also, the series makes it very understandable how an Air Force base functions and all the moving parts it requires to get the aircraft up and to put hot steel on targets. And, how in WWII and up to relatively recently, the US military did not have air superiority. Not in the ETO or the Pacific Theater. I write this because, while the US Air Force (at least between 2004-9 and particularly in 2007 when I was sent to Airman Leadership School), actively teaches USAF history and legacy, this series does a fantastic job of showing the Airman ethos. I once gave a lecture when I was a 3E9 training instructor about the historical risks faced by Airmen when a young Airman made comments about how the Air Force is ‘easy’ and ‘just like a regular job.’ Also, In this modern age where joint and combined operations are common, it is easy to get the Air Force, Army, Navy, and Marine Corps missions interlocked, more times than others depending on the MOS/AFSC/Rate. For example, in USAF EM/CBRN ops, the Tactics/Techniques/Procedures have a Vinn Diagram type relationship but, ultimately, the Air Force’s unique mission is to operate, secure, and respond to incidents/attacks in and around an Airbase. This series is obviously set during WWII, but, just the same in the modern age, we would be running CBRNE recon following each barrage to clear the base for those bombers to get airborne. It’s awesome to see the big picture on the screen and the actual air missions in vivid depictions. And finally, with my Grandpa having been an Army Air Forces Master Sergeant during WWII loading ammunition onto P51’s, it gives unique insight into his life during those years. Looking forward to Episodes 5 and on!

“Glad to be here” This weekend I saw the Blue Angels IMAX movie - it was shot by the same team who did Top Gun: Maverick. In other words, it was incredible. Some things you will notice if you watch this examination of a high preforming team in pursuit of perfection are: 1) They have a ritual of saying “Glad to be here” during both good and difficult circumstances like a debrief about something that wasn’t up to standard - good times or bad, they recognize the blessing and responsibility of being on the team 2) They debrief everything (in high definition). 3) Practice practice practice, reps reps reps. 4) The team puts a big focus on physical fitness 5) Imposter syndrome is real for almost everyone - even super cool, top tier, A Type aviators. Realizing it is the first step to managing it and pushing through towards owning your role. If you’re in StL be sure to see it at Saint Louis Science Center on the omnimax screen. Also, had a great appreciation for Shapiro - Partners Today. For Tomorrow.’s own Don Shelton who served as a member of the Blue Angels team. Thank you for your service Don! https://lnkd.in/d8bJe2VG US Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, Blue Angels

It’s such a joy to see DARPA tech get recognition. I’m excited to be working with Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and EpiSci to help shape this into a product. Well done to the DARPA leadership with the vision to make this leap! #trustedautonomy: How can AI and human input be mixed to create the best possible performance?
It was surreal watching the video clip from NBC this evening. I know there have been a bunch of posts on this already but I couldn't resist forwarding this one on. https://lnkd.in/eZ79x-ed

People who see this as a cool leap forward are dangerously missing a glaring problem. Skynet! Political leaders historically have to appeal to a patriotic military with human leaders and pilots to accomplish their goals. Having a real human in the cockpit limits their ability to issue unlawful or inhumane orders against an enemy or civilian population. An AI controlled F-16 has massive destructive capability. When controlled by AI it can give a tyrannical leader the ultimate power at the push of a button. Although advantageous in certain tactical scenarios, this development is highly dangerous. The fighter pilot community needs to push back hard on this. Keep human pilots in the seat! Demand that constitutional based AI safety code be added to all AI weapon algorithms in order to protect individual civil liberties. This will come back to bite us if we aren’t extremely careful. We don’t have a lot of time left. Skynet is built around us right now. #fighterpilot #AI #humansfirst #f16 #AITC

Head of Sales at Spearpoint Solutions & Technology 💡 Military & first responder operator capabilities 🪂 🚔 🚒 Enabling operators to perform optimally when paramount 1️⃣ 🟢 Perennial Rugby & Rugby Sevens supporter 🏉
Do you ever wonder if you are running the best operator kit for your job ❓ 🤔 What do others around the world use in similar roles 🙄 I just finished watching an eight-part series on Netflix - "Toughest Forces on Earth" where a mix of US/UK Tier One operators visits & trains with eight different international SF units. The thing that stood out for me was that most of these units deployed with exactly the same, best of breed kit: 🔘 Gentex Corp. ballistic helmets, 🔘 Crye Precision LLC combat clothing & rigs, 🔘 Olympia Triumph boarding poles/ladders, and 🔘 Garmin tactical watches. What conclusions would you draw here: 🔘 Why do the best operators in the world all use this kit ❓ 🤔 🔘 Why does Spearpoint Solutions & Technology represent this kit ❓ 🤔 🔘 Why do discerning operators/organisations choose Spearpoint Solutions & Technology ❓ 🤔 🔘 Why do discreet organisations seeking discreet solutions have discreet discussions with Spearpoint Solutions & Technology ❓ 🤔 Ask me, task me 📞 Ian Jiear Head of Sales Spearpoint Solutions & Technology 💡 Exclusive partner of Tier One suppliers in ANZ Enabling operators to perform optimally when paramount 1️⃣ 🟢 #military #firstresponder #sales #solutions

7moSo why can’t they wear uniforms and claim to be soldiers in elsewhere? It has nothing to do with anything but our inherent lawlessness and dubiousness that comes factory fitted with lack of accountability and/or consequences. That’s all.
