As we're coming to the end of #DisabilityHistoryMonth, we thought you'd like to check out our response to the recent consultation on the Disability Action Plan 2023-2024. Many of our members report that magistrates' courts are inadequately accessible for people with disabilities—be they #magistrates, defendants, staff or visitors. Our consultation response has highlighted this and in it, we also propose that the Disability Unit should address two data gaps in the justice system: 1) the lack of data on how many judges and magistrates are disabled 2) the lack of data and information available for magistrates and the public on the accessibility of court buildings. We've also urged the Disability Unit to recognise #accessibility as a core element of access to justice. This is just one of the ways we influence on behalf of our members.
