It's amazing - but shouldn't be surprising - what big city governments, like Chicago's, have been able to accomplish with community input and insight. The pandemic more or less 'forced' private, public and government entities to come together, to quickly develop solutions, addressing a wide variety of needs. I will have to admit that my unfound cynicism regarding 'governmental programs' has been replaced with optimism, as I see first-hand the results of programs directly targeting - marketing to - and helping small businesses and the people who work there, get back on their feet and begin to thrive. I don’t think that you need to win a pitch competition to be in a successful business. But if you want to scale massively, there are many other things to consider than your every day metrics. If you want to make an impact in the world, your voice needs to be heard, and once that happens, you become a magnet for investors, customers, and partners. I’ve seen the effect of this happening in my own business, so take it from me, it can be very powerful. Just don’t do it for the wrong reasons, your business is not here to feed your ego.
